So good for you to make that close connection with loved ones. You seem so relaxed and serene, obviously a well needed respite for you. God bless. Evelyn.

Hi Maggie,

I was sorry to read about you mother-in-law but as you say she has had a good long life. My father-in-laws mother died in March just a few weeks shy of her 98th birthday and although it was hard I was also grateful she went fast and without much pain. Prayers for you and her, and for a painless end.

Carol

Thank you, Carol.

Have had another very relaxing day, sitting outside, visiting, catching up, sharing stories.....and me marveling at the 3 grands my SIL took in, stabilized and has successfully raised for nearly 10 years.

Their mother was one who went off the rails at a very early age and never really returned. It happens. Lots of grandparents out there raising their grands.

A great visit, we have all enjoyed it.

May just head home tomorrow am, may go on to the conservation area........we'll see how I feel in the morning.

Maggie,

IMO, she is a lucky grandma. I'd take my two grandsons in a second! Of course their parents wouldn't give them up! LOL.

Have moved on to the Putnam Co. Conservation area, which does not show up on my maps but has dry camping in a lovely, wooded, well maintained setting just west of McNabb, IL, off county road 500 North.

$8 a night, and they have an equestrian camping area if you choose to bring your horse(s).

They're going to join me to picnic later, and I will go home in the am.

We built a fire.....they provide free firewood there .....roasted hot dogs and just hung out yesterday. Lily got to run loose out there, and was a very happy little girl.

Had a lovely visit with these good people, and slept well in a very cool overnight last night.

Heading home this morning, still on country roads, I heard an increasingly louder thumping noise, was thinking I needed to find someone to look at the tires.....then a big thump......and the rear wheel on the drivers side had fallen off. Yes. Fallen. Off.

No one was hurt, never did find the tire....must be in the cornfield. AAA came and towed me back to Bloomington. Seems to be no damage but to the part that holds the tire on....flat as the proverbial pancake.

A bit of a harrowing experience, but a nice sheriffs deputy kept me company while we waited for the tow truck.....and, it could have been worse.

I had just had my tires rotated, my nephew tightened the lug nuts for me Monday.

We'll see what the damages are.

You know......I am still learning about road sounds vs. vehicle/tire sounds.

I thought the tires were okay, until the noise got very loud....by then it was too late.

I feel foolish, and should have had a mechanic look at them in town at my SIL's.

Please forgive me for sticking my nose in something that is clearly your business and not mine.

Suggestion: Find and sign up for a "powder puff mechanic" course. Community colleges, etc. often offer these. They provide a nonjudgmental atmosphere where ladies can learn the basics of vehicle maintenance. The knowledge will enable you to spot many safety-related problems on your vehicle before they become hazardous--and to fix most of them, if no one is there to help, or if you choose to do so.

It ain't rocket science. Knowledge increases safety.

I always enjoy your posts.

That is a great idea, and thank you.

You're not sticking your nose in, as this is a public blog I have chosen to write..... comments and suggestions are welcome and encouraged.

Please do.

You know....I have this document on my IPad that I add to when I find something that touches me...... the "other people's words" I have shared here many times.

Helps me look up, reading thru it periodically.

Everyone should have one of these.

A small bit of good news.....PNC has approved an exception and is going to deposit that small check of Doug's with my completed Small Estate Affidavit.

The right thing for them to do......always good to see an institution do the right thing every once in awhile.

Had the assistant bank manager not gone to bat for me with their legal department, I doubt that would have happened. She also referred the issue it to their Escalations Department.......who called me, and we had a long conversation about the issue.

Three cheers for Stephanie Hoy at PNC!
