Read this this morning, and have seen slight variations on these words before...

“We are not measured by how we fall. We are measured by how we get back up."

It’s in the getting up, and trying to move forward from whatever has capsized our life, that determines what we can and will do with the remainder of it.

Get up every day, put one foot ahead of the other and do your part... a path will open, and life will right itself.

Tho things don’t always turn out the way we would like, a path appearing has always been my experience.

Maggie,
Havenít had signal the last couple of days. Want to say how much I enjoyed talking with you in Estes Park. We went hiking in Hermit Park and stopped to take a look at ďyourĒ cabin. Looking good! Glad your Interstate is back on the road. Safe travels!

Rural cemeteries are great spots for breaks...Lily gets a wild romp in the wide open spaces, and a chance to have a rawhide snack before getting back on the road...

Nice name -- Hermits Cabin! Is there any historical significance to this?

Glad your trip worked out.

Thanks, that looks like a great book!

After I posted, I found a good write-up on the site of your organizers [I think]:

https://historicorps.org/events/hermit-park-cabin-co/

Looks like the right cabin. Interesting stories about the name and the so-called hermit, Dutch Lewis!

That would be it, Peter.

It’s a rather large log cabin, as log cabins go...two large rooms on the main floor, and a loft that covers the second floor.

Seems it would have been built with a family in mind, certainly more than one hermit person.

There is also no evidence of there ever being a chimney, but a wood stove, so probably a cookstove that also heated the house.

We had a wonderful visit over the weekend with my MN friends of nearly 50 years, and headed toward home today....overnighting in Wisconsin, we will see the little house tomorrow, and looking forward to it.

Home as of early evening yesterday, after a 9 hour day ...should have taken three days to get home, but by the time I was thinking I should have home was just a few hours away.

9 hours included a couple of potty stops, also one to dump the tanks, so we got home with that already done.

The Interstate is emptied and cleaned, and the last load of laundry (rugs) is in the dryer...going to get the tires rotated tomorrow, then put her to bed in storage for awhile.

Looks like there was a fair amount of rain while we were gone, and there are many things growing in my beds around the house where they should not be...high on the to-do list will be cleaning all that up.

Picked up this little cookbook while visiting my friends, and am going to make a concerted effort to cook less in quantity, but more often.

I’ve cleaned up a lot of my frozen, vacuum-sealed MRE’s, from recipes serving 4-6...time for a new leaf, we’ll see how I do.

I stopped for cheese before leaving Wisconsin, and they were selling Colorado peaches...which I had heard about in Colorado, but never happened on a stand selling them...so I came home with a 20lb box.

They are delicious, and I anticipate a ginger-peach cobbler for the family this weekend.

Good to go, always good to come home.

Welcome back home!

How about some peach ice cream?

Cube and marinate ripe peach in peach schnapps or Cointreau for 24 hours in fridge. Make vanilla ice cream, using some of the marinating brine, and add peach cubes near the end of the mixing/freezing so the fruit does not get crushed.

Yum!

Thank you, Peter, and for the ice cream suggestion....which I might make instead of cobbler, if only I had an ice cream maker.

I just had to replace my 40+ year old hand-crank White Mountain maker, so I have ice cream on the mind! Just made chocolate for the first time for GS #1's 4th.

So easy once you gear up, as I know you know, and this model needs no electricity! Amazing how long a good tool lasts if one takes care of it.
