It may well depend on the cost of such a repair and the repair of any engine damage versus the cost to the insurance company as a total loss. You may have some negotiating room, so at leas talk to them about repair options.

The owner usually has the option to buy the vehicle from the insurance company if it is totaled, so you might be able to do that and arrange the repair yourself. John and I did that once with a VW Rabbit. Right after we'd spent a bunch of money having the engine overhauled, some clueless lady drove into the back of me while I was stopped for a red light. Rather than lose the money for that engine work, we bought the salvage car, then bought another Rabbit with a bad engine, and had our mechanic do an engine transplant.

If your Interstate is in repairable condition, someone is going to buy and repair it. Maybe it can be you. Fingers crossed!

I’ve replaced ‘clips’ before myself. It isn’t that hard.

But depends on if there is damage to the front subframe.

Hmmmm.

If that is possible, the logistics boggle my mind at this point because I a) know nothing of such things, and b) the remains are in Pennsylvania.

State Farm has surely looked at it by now, so I may reach out to them tomorrow and see what the status of things is.

I appreciate all the info.

If luck were truly on your side, there would be a Forums member with body shop skills near where your rig is located. You need impartial expert advice.

Failing that, quiz the State Farm people thoroughly after they've done their evaluation.

I’m going to start with getting some info from State Farm today.

Thanks, Mimi.

This might get me thru summer and fall plans...

But for the tent, itself, I have everything I would need to camp in this, and can sleep on my air mattress in the cargo area of the RAV4.

No kitchen or bathroom, but I can manage meals, and would sometimes have electricity, have two solar showers and can work in a portable potty of some sort.

I had adventures planned, and hate the idea of staying home for months and months.

Like that you are allowing your mind to exploring ideas. You could certainly sleep in the back of the Rav4 or also on a cot inside the tent with Lily at your side.

You had an adventurous possibility of a trip that you had not shared yet as the details still needed to be worked out. It would be sad to see that go away.

There would be room for Lily on the air mattress in the back of the RAV4, the air mattress that I already have , where I would need to buy a cot and then find a place to stash it enroute.

Summer plans are tentatively on...

I think I see some of Maggie’s moxie that we have all come to know and love peeking itself out in those last few posts. {{inserting my own little happy dance here}}

You’re sweet.

I look at that tent expansion of my RAV4 and think “we could do that”.

There’s actually quite a lot on the Internet on camping in your SUV, which many seem to do sans any kind of tent type extension.

State Farm has looked at my rig but not yet gotten all the documents generated, but I should have some real information tomorrow.

Now we are cooking. Your last statement says a lot!

I do a lot of car camping with my tent as I enjoy going to music festivals that are sometimes far off and it is just me going. I love my tent- a CAMP DOME 4 from REI. It is easy to set up with plenty of room. For warm weather I have an Endless Breeze fan by Fantastic Vents powered by a lithium battery jump box.

Cute, Dan.

My Interstate wasn’t totaled, which makes this all different now.

Excellent news!
It may take a bit for proper repair, but as long as suspension is done right it should be as good as before.

Yippee, maybe a new drivetrain with considerably less than 193,000 miles on it.
