Regarding Costco, a nonmember can shop Costco Online without a membership but pays an additional 5%. (Their gloves prices have gone up, have been low on stock and the material of manufacture has changed during covid) A non member can shop in store and purchase gas with a Costco gift card which can be loaded up to $2000.00 and would need to be purchased by a member.

It is common to buy a Costco gift card, load it with a particular amount and use it to buy gasoline purchases.

We also like the shop gloves at harbor freight.

Hmmm, don’t know that I’ve ever been in a Harbor Freight, but will keep them in mind.

For a few years from now, when I will next need gloves.

Maggie

Might also look for disposable gloves at auto parts stores O’Reilly, Advance, AutoZone etc.

Start a crocheted item without knowing what you’re going to do with it, and it always finds a home.

Make a big pot of soup without knowing how many times you’ll eat it and whatever will you do with the leftovers?

A hungry trio of hikers present themselves across the road from your site this morning…and are beside themselves with delight at being the recipients of your reheated soup.

They ate every bite, and leftovers problem…solved.

I try every day, DaveP.

I have always enjoyed feeding people, is the truth.

It is a beautiful, sunny day here, and the space heater is off for the first time in days.

Free food and warm, I bet they were happy!

We like to say, Feed them and they will come!

And God is good...all the time!

When I walked over and asked if they were hungry, I got a resounding “YES”, and when I told them what I had to offer at 9:30 or so in the morning, they were equally enthusiastic.

It just seemed like the right thing to do, to offer to feed them, plus there was all that very hearty soup needing consumed.

They were very sweet and appreciative, did everything but lick the bowls.

If only I’d had a fresh loaf of bread.

Serious hikers, these guys.

I’ve decided that in my next life I want to hike the Appalachian Trail.

I could probably do some bits of it now, tho being afraid of bears and other critters with large teeth that is unlikely…also my knees would not be up to it at this point in my life.

I envision some young person, years down the road, talking about his journey and saying he doesn’t quite understand it, but he just feels this need to hike the Appalachian Trail, start to finish.

That will be me.

Maggie

Well there are through hikers, part hikers, long-term hikers, multiple times hikers, all kinds of hikers so maybe if you find a part of it you should hike it in this life :-)

Hmmm, but there’s still the fear of animals with big teeth.

In my next life, when I hike the Appalachian Trail, I will not have that fear.

Yes well we are all afraid of something. My kryptonite is airplanes and big dogs with shiny teeth :-).

Lily will protect you and you can just call it a walk. Couple hundred yards and you've been on the A.T.

In my next life I'm going to be a pilot and face my fears.

Just find a section of it nearby, park, and take a few steps "on the Trail" ASAP.

Every new journey starts with one small step.

"Happy Trail" !!!

Question

Thanks Maggie.

How far away is the closest part of the AT?

Writing a new to-do item on a list . . . ?

Thanks, Dana.

Small acts of kindness can change the world, I believe that.

I am not near the Trail right now, but can/will cross it on my way home from Edisto next month.

I don’t have to do it immediately, but will plan a walk so I can say I’ve had my feet there.

These guys would have been a good group to walk with a ways, and it sounds like there is an interactive group out there at any given time…meeting up for a few days here and there, folks coming on and off the Trail as their respective schedules allow.

Right now I’m plotting my route north-ish out of here next week, trying to decide how close I can get to St. Mary’s, Georgia, without experience anxiety and emotional distress.

Not too close, I’ve determined.

Nearly 8 years, and the trauma is still there, as is the case with all traumas, i have learned…try to avoid the people/places/things that trigger, is what one can do.

I have to do labs next week, and have scheduled those.

I spent 6 months last year beating something chronic back, which i didn’t share at the time, but I was successful with the help of my excellent hematologist.

And on I go, grateful every day.

Maggie
