Been away from the thread for awhile now, so good to catch up. Thanks for continued words of wisdom and anecdotes - nothing like experience to shine light upon a subject. In fact, I'm going out right now to check the lugs on our new set of tires bought a month ago.

We choose who to share our lives with but at the risk of parting ways at some point. Some choose to continue affecting other lives despite the absence. That's what this thread does. I'm out the door!

Thank you.

Some words of wisdom, perhaps, and certainly experience....in and amongst a lot of idle chitchat, is the truth.

My son's middle boy....the 10 year old....will be learning cello in the school orchestra this year. What?!....at age 10? This the one who has begun wearing soft contact lenses....the only one of them with glasses, and he is getting to be a big boy, wants to look like other kids, I guess. Yikes.

They are growing up so quickly. School starts for them Wednesday.

Interstate is pretty much ready to go, but for a few things in the morning, then we're heading north for a couple of weeks.

This was our glorious retirement life together....we worked for it, planned for it, and saved for it....and it calls to me now like it called to the both of us...and if I can, I must go.

Headed up north?

Hi Maggie,

I will be "up north", leaving next week, Tuesday, for Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, then back down to Illinois, Old Route 66, and return to North Carolina.

Back the same way a bit later. So, if you are anywhere near.....holler...

Hi Tommie!

I remembered you being in Blm-Nrml over Labor Day weekend? Is that still your plan? I will be home early that week, otherwise solely in the eastern half of the UP to Whitefish Bay-ish. So....let me know.

We are tonight somewhere in middle WI, east and north of Janesville in a PA campground.

Had an uneventful ride up....tho I am a bit hypervigilant about noises and any movement of the Interstate that could be a wheel falling off. Wind, trucks passing, etc., make me wide-eyed.

Stopped around the 50 mile mark and had a very nice, extremely talkative mechanic check and tighten all the lug nuts....took him about 5 minutes to do that, after 50 minutes "getting the specs" while talking a blue streak. $10 cash, no receipt, got it done.

Tomorrow....Lake Superior.

Hi Red, and thank you. I am in your email address book, you know. . Hi to Nancy, and glad I am not in Texas in August.

We are in Munising, MI, for the night, will move slightly east in the morning.

63 degrees when we arrived here....lovely.

A long and winding drive up today, on back roads as we went north which were reminiscent of those into Chaco Canyon.

Lake Superior is still as beautiful as I remembered.

Thank you, too, Gail. Other people's words, so comforting when they describe exactly what you feel.

I was lucky enough to snag a campsite at 12 Mile CG in Pictured Rocks Natl Lakeshore til Monday....you have to be early, and quick...and I was.

No phone nor internet there, so I will be incommunicado til Monday.

Had to drive into Grand Marais for signal, having a scheduled phone call to make, so letting any who may worry know not to.

When I am on next, I will have pictures.

Note for you, Maggie

Here is one from a website, in memory of a dear friend who passed recently:

You guys are so sweet.

It is a cleansing and peace-inducing experience to be unplugged for long enough that you get thru and past the initial withdrawal .....into the calm and quiet that then settles into your mind and life minus the electronics. A good thing to do now and then.

No phone, Internet or television, forcing me to read more than usual, crochet more than usual....and, especially, walk Lily more than usual.

12 Mile Beach is a beautiful, heavily forested campground, overlooking Lake Superior. A really nice beach, easily accessed by stairs to those always clear waters, creamy sand and water-smoothed rocks.

Very dog friendly, too, allowing for daily, wild-and-with-great-abandon romps and water play. Lily is a very happy, and well-exercised, girl.

No electricity there, but pit toilets and fresh water spigots. Pulled out the collapsible water jugs and solar shower to supplement what I had in my tank, and we stayed well hydrated and clean enough throughout.

We had beautiful daytime temps, cool nights, and no real rain until yesterday. 50 degrees when I left there this morning.

Holding tanks were full and fresh water near-empty, so first stop this morning was to secure a site for the night at the city campground in Grand Marais....so I could use their dump station without charge, and fill with fresh water. .

At the dump station, an Airstream trailer was behind me, the owners friendly and openly admiring my 9 year old Interstate. They recommended the Diner here for the best meal in town and, as I was pulling in there to park, they also pulled in, so we sat down together and shared stories over lunch. Loved it.

Jeff & Laurie, from lower Michigan, "about an hour south of the bridge". Nice folks, not on AirForums.....but they have heard of it.

Now settled in with electricity, 4G LTE, phone signal, hot showers, laundry....and cable.

Back to the forest tomorrow, as I work my way toward Whitefish Point before heading home.

Cold and rainy out, a good afternoon to catch up with everyone and watch a little TV.
