Be aware that tracking a tornado on a mobile device has one big problem. The radar data you're looking at may be several minutes old. Always compare the time on the screen with the real time on your watch or phone before you believe what you see.

Seeking shelter early is not a bad thing to do. Lowest floor, smallest room, away from windows.

Glad you and Lily are OK.

That bench is a great memorial. Lily seems to be looking for him.

It has been a long and teary day, starting with heading to the Waffle House for breakfast, then off and on all day.

Haven't been able to shake it. Just difficult, lots of widow-making memories.

The bench is beautiful, and should last a very long time. I hope it gets a lot of use in its place there near the front door.

I cried very hard a couple of times today, which was unusual for me and difficult for Lily. So tuned in to her Mama, and just not sure what was going on or how to help.

I am surprised at the level of emotion still sitting there, nearly 3 years later, just below the surface, waiting for a trigger.

A traumatic event, doing what traumatic events do.

I called Rivers End CG at Tybee Island, they gave me a good rate, so we made our slow way here around crazy traffic in Savannah.

A lovely place, with friendly people, a couple of whom immediately descended to chat, and ooh and ahh over the Interstate.

Kind of a funky, end of the earth place driving thru here, reminiscent of Key West.

Going to stay a few days, maybe thru the weekend.

Going to have to do some exploring of the little town and the beach tomorrow.

Going to get a shower shortly, and have a glass of wine.

I deserve it.

We first came across the Waffle House chain in the south, of course, as they don't have them up Nawth, and would go there for breakfast once or twice per trip in our retirement travels.

When Doug died, we hadn't yet been there on that 2 month old trip, but there was one near the campground I stopped at after my first day driving home after his death.

So, tearfully, I had breakfast there the next morning before continuing on home...he would have said "kismet", that it was there, and I felt having my pecan waffle and sausage patties was what he would have wanted me to do.

When we drove the grands in the Interstate to the family week at Edisto in 2010 or so, we took the four of them to a Waffle House for breakfast one morning....without pause, they climbed right up onto the stools at the counter, Doug and I positioning ourselves at each end.

The kids were adorable, and the staff really catered to them...bringing them extra things at no charge, engaging them in conversation, etc., and telling we adults how brave we were to be traveling with all those kids.

They loved it, we loved it, and Waffle House has always had a special place in our hearts.

So, when I saw this one near my campground last night, I thought that having breakfast there this morning was the thing to do before visiting the memorial bench.

Pecan Waffle, sausage patties, and coffee...my Waffle House breakfast.

The tears began just thinking about going there this morning. What a day.

However....throughout this day, I have had "hug images" recurring in my mind, of Doug holding me, and hugging me.

He knew how hard this was, and was there for me, that's what I believe...because, that's the kind of man he was, and that's what he would do...he would hug me.

He couldn't be there in person, but he was there in spirit...really, he was.

Thanks, Jim...I will get out and explore some tomorrow. Was inundated with visitors as soon as I arrived, but it was nice to have face to face conversation, and a good day for it.

They give you a rather thick brochure here with check in materials, too, entitled "Where to Eat at the Beach".

Thanks for your kind words, everyone.

It has been a hard day for Lily...she seems a bit drained.

Her Mama crying is not something she is used to.

Sweet baby.

Maggie,

Google "flip belt". it is a very cool thing that I saw a couple of years ago when I was at an out door concert. These women who had ridden on their motorcycles had them, so that they didn't need a purse, but could have their phone on them.

Covered up by their shirts, so not in the way at all.

I got one and love it for walking the dog or hiking. I use it at concerts too. It doesn't bounce, and since you flip it over it's very secure against your body. Made of the same type of fabric as yoga pants. I can put my phone, keys, and credit card in it.

I got mine at a running store. I have seen them at large sporting good stores and REI.

Thanks, PB, I am looking around a bit at what is out there.

This woman had a silicone thingy on her wrist, which I really liked...very lightweight and easily storable in here.

I'm going to take the cell when Lily and I wander after a bit, as my Pocket Earth App will tell me where we are relative to the campground at any moment.

I used it in Athens, and loved it.
