God bless you,Maggie! I hope that will be your one and only "worse day ever!" You definitely deserve that glass, (maybe two), of a really good wine! Cuddle up with Lily tonight, sleep well. Fear not, my dear...tomorrow will be a better day!

Thank you, ladies.

It is cool and humidity-free here....windows open and a nice breeze made for deluxe sleeping accommodations, which was absolutely wonderful. Sleep always helps, after a rough day.

Doug regularly cursed dumping the holding tanks, and had a couple of spills, himself, over the years.

One of the least accommodating features of our Interstate is the location of the connection for the sewer hose......under the Interstate, and behind the propane valve.

You can't see it, unless on your knees and looking under, and have to connect by feel. I thought I had it, but didn't.

What a mess, but everything washes, including me.

Laundry, some cleaning, and a little cooking today. Meeting the Eklunds tomorrow sometime.....then, on to Quemado.

I found this picture online, of an antler structure that stands in Quemado.

Hi Gail!

If I can learn to dump, you can learn to dump. :

The first time I dumped was the day after Doug died. Pulled into the first campground I came to and asked the first man I saw to please walk me thru it. Been doing it ever since.

It's not that difficult.....just make sure you are tightly, and properly, connected before you pull those valves.

Laundry done, dropped something off at the post office, bought a few groceries, and now back at the campground, awaiting fellow travelers who will be joining me here tonight.

Socorro is a nice little town, and has a beautiful plaza in the center which had a little Farmers Market going this morning.

We would call it a town square in the Midwest.

Neat and tidy, with many pueblo-looking buildings, for lack of a better description.

Maggie, you are an inspiration....I have never done the dumping, always considered it "his job" .....but after reading your post I know that I should just do it!

Thank you, Ntex.

I always knew I could do it if I had to, just preferred not to, and he also considered it men's work.

It is men's work.

But then, I also didn't expect Doug would die suddenly 900 miles from home....and who does expect that.

So, I either do it all, or stay home, and I'm not ready to stay home.

C'mon, girls, learn to dump those tanks....you never know when you might have no choice.

New day, Maggie. This WILL BE A GREAT DAY! I dump the tanks....very carefully...all connections in order. I always wear disposable rubber gloves to do it. To make the task easier, I had my dealer extend the access to tank valve closer to the edge. I still don't like the job, but, it's necessary. When I can get one of the guys at an RV park to do it, I like that better. LOL!

Have a nice day. God bless. Evelyn.

This has been a good day, Evelyn, and thank you.

I always wear rubber gloves, and have a gardeners kneeling pad....since I must kneel to connect and pull the levers.

I won't let it happen again.

Showered, shampooed twice, shaved my legs, topped off the fuel tank and holding tanks have been uneventfully dumped....I'm as ready as I can be for a week without hookups.

The Hendricksons arrived last night, but are not following the Eklunds with me to Quemado today as they need to do everything today that I did yesterday.

We are at 7 rigs and holding, at this point, for the Great Gila Wilderness Adventure.

Next post.....from Quemado.

Met up with the Eklunds this morning, then had a beautiful drive to Quemado.

We passed an observatory and a herd of antelope, also went over the Continental Divide at almost 7800 feet.

Interstate just chugged right along.

Lily met the Eklunds blue heelers, but did not eat them and no blood was shed , tho there was a little snarling and snapping while she made it clear who was in charge.....then, they settled right down.

I have Skyped with both my kids and theirs today, which feels important to do when one will be out of touch for awhile.

It is in the 60's right now, will be in the 50's overnight, so perfect sleeping weather.

Tomorrow, the last water fill at the Ranger Station here, then off we go.

Maggie, don't always comment, but always like to catch-up on your doings.

Sounds like those curves in the road are straightening out for you!

Maggie, maybe you should suggest a contest to see who is the oldest woman to dump her own tanks.... LOL And yes, rubber gloves and eye protection are good things to have, actually I use both when I fill up with diesel as well.

When I am at home I usually have a small stool to sit on when doing all the heavy work on lower parts of my AS. Like checking air in the tires, torquing the wheels, dumping the tanks, etc. What I have found is that while sitting I have more strength to get the darn connection firmly attached.

And, just so you do not feel alone, on our trailers we can store the waste dump hose under the trailer in a tube. Well, I did not get the cover attached on the storage tube and of course, not only the cover came off, but the doggone waste dump hose flew out as well. And, I even saw it go in my rear view mirror, thinking it was something in the road.

So, maybe we need a wrench of some sort to get these connections tight. I might have to work on this.

Always glad to hear ( read) your posts. And if you are going to be at Alumalina, will definitely have the espresso ready, or we can catch up on the road again for another fun lunch.

I will get my travel schedule to you as I am in Illinois in August.

Be well

Thank you, FaN and Tommie.

I will not be at Alumalina in October, do plan to be there in March.

Please let me know when you will be in Illinois, Tommie.

I am thinking I might go to the UP at some point before mid-September, but have nothing firmed up....just loose, general directional planning.

For those interested in the Gila Wilderness trip, I am going to post most pics from there on that thread.....makes more sense than here, really, or to duplicate.
