That's kind of cute, Mimi.

No deer here in town.

Maggie, be careful, they like to nest in the engine, compartment of vehicles. Ask how Dana knows. Took out insulation of fire wall and nested in blower fan. Had to remove dash to clean.

Well, it's not nesting in there now, and pretty soon it will be at the storage lot...

Maggie:

They also love to get inside houses, just like the dreaded red squirrels. Once in or in a vehicle they will eat wires, destroy almost anything they can get their little teeth into. Our previous Lab would hide in our back yard, wait until they got in the center and catch them before they could make cover - boom, done with. Then she would bring them to me.

The two I have now, will try and play with them if I let them

Good luck, bet Lily could take care of the little bugger.

I'm sure Lily could scare the critter off, if I could let her loose out there but it's the unfenced front yard.

Maybe I need to set a trap.

I have a contract with American Pest Control, and their advertisement cites "rodents" as one of their target populations.

I think a chipmunk qualifies, and I will call them tomorrow.

I sure enjoyed those pears, Gail.

Doug would say that chipmunk is just a rat with stripes.

That would be fun, Gail, but only if I can pay the postage.

I had the Comcast guy here at 8am this morning, after spending an hour with their tech folks on IChat Sunday trying to fix something remotely....they ran me thru all heir remote tasks, nothing resolved the issue... then were starting to run me thru them for the second time, when I told them I'd had enough and they needed to send a repairman to the house. Yikes.

He had to replace some coaxial cable that had gotten moisture in it.

Talked with my APS guy this morning, too, who told me that...unlike mice...chipmunks are not as destructive or invasive, particularly a single traveler.

He suggested I watch the little guy, be sure he doesn't bring all his friends and family over, and if he does he will give me a referral to someone who can trap and extricate them.

I do think I'll spray some of the garlic stuff I keep for the occasional feral cat that likes to use the beds around the house as litter boxes...might send him packing without hurting his cute little self.

Even into the back yard would be better, where Lily would likely be an effective deterrent.

Have been watching the Edisto PD facebook page...what a mess, they and many others in the Carolinas are still without power, water, etc., but they are starting to give residents day passes, street by street, so they can check on their homes.

They are not allowed to move back yet.

Many huge live oaks, and parts of live oaks, are down, streets are full of sand, at least a couple of houses right on the beach have been completely destroyed.

The entire island evacuated for the storm, but for 8 people who chose to stay.

Chipmunks tend to dig burrows and tunnels in the ground for nesting. Houses not so much.

That's what Chris told me this morning, and that if there were multitudes of them and they were burrowing under the foundation of my house....

But, there's one...for now...so I will spray his hiding hole with garlic and hope he moves somewhere else,

But, if he's an Italian chipmunk, the garlic will just make his food taste better to him....

My favorite Italian restaurant has a sign that says, "We season our garlic with food!"

Since my godparents were from Sicily, I can identify with that idea!

I love garlic.

They are working to remove tons of sand from the main road in the town of Edisto Beach...with big, dirt shoveling machines.
