I've spent a good chunk of the past two days trimming-to-fit for the Interstate the piece of carpet runner I bought earlier in the week.

This is not the kind of thing I enjoy doing, so I am proud of myself for just have gotten to it and finished it.

The charcoal grey of the runner blends very nicely with the "gravel" seat covers I finished putting on yesterday, tho in truth it now looks like an older Interstate that has had some cosmetic surgery.

Which is okay...I have to look at it, and these things needed tended to.

We've had beautiful, cool weather the past couple of days, which has been conducive to such labor intensive tasks as measuring, cutting, maneuvering, repositioning, measuring, then cutting on ones hands and knees a 14' piece of carpet runner.

The runner is 26" wide, tho not one bit of my flooring is that wide, so it all had to be cut down, and more than once.

Done.

I'll get a photo at some point, when everything in there is looking it's very best.

I am rethinking renting a car for November & December.

I can save more money to buy a new one if I just do the occasional, couple-day rental, and use Uber...which is here.

I'm not one to be running somewhere every day, try to grocery shop just once a week, anyway, and have a nice tho more expensive market just a mile or so from me for anything I had to have in between.

A two-month rental would just sit in my driveway about 80% of the time, which doesn't make much sense.

The Senior Center bus could pick me up and bring me home from needlework group ...tho I can't stand the thought of that, so could walk that mile or so each way.

I've about talked myself out of buying another car, at all, anytime in the foreseeable future.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by Hurricane Matthew, and I am especially concerned for the beloved place that has my heart, for many reasons...Edisto Beach.

The island was hit hard, and I found the facebook page of their Police Department, which is doing a really admirable job of trying to keep evacuated residents informed.

There are lots of photos of the damage, and a drone video.

Such devastation.

Maggie,

I don't think the media can cover the real people that are affected from this storm. The folks that don't live in gated communities or big developments. Many built on an acre or so out in the country with modest means and high hopes. These onesies and twosies are low on the utility company power restoration logic. And not faulting their efforts, applauding their dedication and skills.

My oldest is among that small house crowd in between nowhere and not yet.

She just got an estimate for power restoration. Next Sunday.

We're close by but trees, local flooding, family and keeping the jobs are priority.

Many are in these shoes.

I know, Gary, and I am sad for them all.

We don't have hurricanes here, but tornadoes, and ice storms. and it is the same thing when devstation is so widespread.

Restoration has to be done piece by piece, and takes a long time.

Thanks, Gail!

Come on down. The Texas Hill Country in the springtime is one huge flower show, all wildflowers. I'd love to show you.

I'll offer prayers for those affected by the hurricane. The damage happens so quickly and the rebuilding takes so long.

One of these little guys has taken up residence near my front porch, and likes to spend its days scurrying around, doing whatever chipmunks do to prepare for winter...on and around the front porch, literally under Lily's nose.

She is not happy.

I haven't decided whether to try to get rid of him/her, or welcome him/her to the neighborhood....afraid if I am too hospitable the friends will soon arrive.

It is kind of cute.

I'd like to take credit for the picture, but found it online.

The little bugger moves too fast for me to snap one of him.

He's been digging a lot of holes in the beds around the house.

We have a squirrel and I almost got a good picture of it. Likd you said fast and not a lot if time sitting still.

We thought, no harm no foul, that's what come with having a larger property. Then we realized there were actually three of them cavorting thru the grass. They are also digging and compromising our berms which keep the irrigation water away from the house. Might be time for some friendly traps on our end.

I have bigger critters wandering about down here. It's been a good couple of breeding seasons for the herd of whitetail deer that lives here, and now they're everywhere. This morning, right in my yard, I watched an older buck (six or eight point) in an almost friendly shoving match with a younger one (just a couple of spikes). It was almost like Dad was teaching his teenage son how it was done.
