Good to hear, Evelyn...I was just thinking I should email you and see where you got to today.

See you tomorrow.

I am reading a really excellent book...

"Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers", by Robert M. Sapolsky

About stress and its effect on the body.

Do you read paper or Nook? I have several downloaded on Nook, two Nooks with me, fully charged. I really enjoy mysteries, action novels, also, a few romance. Nothing tonight, as I think I'm about ready for to turn in. Evelyn.

We went to all Nook, all the time, a number of years ago, as it just makes so much more sense than carrying actual books in here.

I have the kindle app, as well, as my daughter sometimes gifts me books on it.

It took me awhile to realize the apps on the IPad mini do the same thing as carrying the extra device, leaving only one item to charge.

36 degrees here this morning , with a projected high of 70. Wow.

Lily has already been for her walk, and we're starting to think about breakfast...I'm thinking oatmeal.

I had hot oatmeal for breakfast, and it was delicious.

Evelyn arrived early afternoon, and we talked for several hours without interruption. .

Going to soon share some wine and then call it a day.

We decided to leave here for Oregon Friday morning, as no reason to just sit here 4 more days at this place...and pay these rates ....she will have a couple of nights and all day tomorrow to rest up from her trip here, then we will begin a slow meander toward Astoria.

Can't wait to meet and see everyone there.

Glad that Evelyn made it OK and glad that she took the long way around. We saw the smoke from the fire on Sunday when Laura and I went into Yellowstone. We smelled a lot of smoke on our way out coming back to Alpine. Safe travels to Oregon.

I'm looking forward to joining you in Astoria. Keep me informed as to the temperature up there so I'll know what to pack. I fly out of DFW on the morning of the 7th and will pick up my rented rig that afternoon. I'll spend two nights in McMinnville so I can see the museum there, then I'll drive up to Ft. Stevens to join you on the 9th. I have a campsite reserved starting the 9th and leaving the 12th.

Thanks, Gerard.

We will be heading toward Alpine, then north-ish into Idaho as we leave here, hopefully avoiding all fires.

Evelyn's Interstate is beautiful, and looks space-aged, sleek and shiny, compared to mine.

And, she not only has a bigger refrigerator than mine, she has a separate freezer below it that is the same size as the frig!

If you get a chance post some pics of Evelyn's rig as I'd love to see it!

I don't have a Nook but listen to audio books a lot (especially when driving). Just listened to Beach Music by Pat Conroy. An old book but love its ties to Beaufort & Charleston & Rome.

Good morning everyone.... Hi Mimi.... what to pack??? the weather can be different even during one day... right now, we're having a "heat wave" so you'd be in shorts... by Saturday you'd be in sweats!!! Fort Stevens is on a peninsula so lots of ocean/bay breeze, etc... the Oregon Coast can be chilly... I'd say, pack for hot, medium, cold weather.... layers work... ok, hugs and love to all.. it's getting close!!!!

Thanks, Gail. I'll pack as much of everything as the airline will allow.

Cool weather will be welcome after a Texas summer, though we've had a "cool spell" the last week or so. We do get days with highs in the 80's occasionally in the summer, but this one lasted for more than a week. That's unheard of, and most welcome.

Evelyn and I have spent the day visiting and walking our dogs.

She's a nice lady with a good heart, and I am enjoying her company.

Tanks are emptied and fresh water is filled, going to top off with propane in the am and head into Idaho.

There are lots of waterfalls along the Columbia River Gorge, and I think we will concentrate some time in that area.

Going to plan day by day, and poke along...the best way to travel, in my opinion.

Have heard from several on the Wyoming trip that they may join us for at least part of our time in Astoria, which will be nice.

I know that one thing on the agenda is a visit to the Tillamook factory, which has the best ice cream ever, and in more flavors than is fair to a person trying to make a decision.

Oregon...here we come!
