Maggie, your battery does seem a much more convenient location....unlike my two.

I am really looking forward to my side trip to the Tetons...hope to get some good photos...if I remember to take my battery charger with me. I may even try some pleine air painting, if I get a good site location.

I will be removing some of the many items I crammed in "Goliath" to make room for "what I really need"! An ongoing process...till I figure out what I do and do not need.

Interstate is at Cook's for that fender repair, and I will be without a vehicle for 2-3 days.

Shouldn't need one, tho, and I have lots to do here to get ready to leave.

Apparently we do have Uber in town, now...if I need to get somewhere, I will.

I have added peaches, sugar, and the requisite additional rum to my Rumtopf...the peaches sunk into the berries already doing their thing, which all looks rather pretty mingling together in that big glass crock.

Look at me, sharpening the knives, honey.

Maybe one more fruit, when I get back here in a few weeks.

Sorting and pulling clothing...I tend to want to take everything I might possibly want to wear, so I pull it all out, then start putting things back in my closet.

I need to stash a large packing cube with a few cooler weather things, as there will be some elevations and it will be mid October before I return, so that will go under one of the the rear benches...just in case.

Lily is watching familiar preparations....catching my eye and giving her tail a thump...

...."is it time, yet?"

Maggie, I just returned from doing ....."your favorite task"....dumping the tanks! Hot temperatures and full tanks as well as a full dump station....made it especially aromatic!
Tried holding my breath....does not help! All I can say is...glad it's done! BARF! PEEYEEW!!!

I'm just about ready...will have the Interstate back tomorrow afternoon, plug it in, finish the packing, and be ready to head out Thursday morning.

I checked the temps in KY and TN, and it's not any hotter there than here, so I may as well be looking at something different...like water, birds, different flora and fauna. It's why we go.

I will have electricity the entire trip, or I would head north. AC for sleep in this weather is required.

My IPad was not charging again. Son brought his things, cleaned the connections good, and I was up and running again.

I watched carefully, tho hope I don't have this problem again any time soon.

I really need to watch where the connector end dangles in the Interstate, as there are spots in there very difficult to reach and not as clean as my house.

I'm sure the source of the "gunk" the young man at Connecting Point cleaned out last week.

One of the ongoing difficulties of widowhood for me is cooking/food preparation for one.

Some days, nothing really appeals to me, and not having Doug to cook for becomes a struggle to prepare and eat proper meals.

I have to pay attention to what I eat, and make a point of balancing out my day.

I still talk to Doug every day, but have started sleeping more in the center of the bed...rather than the 2+ years of sticking strictly to my side...like he's coming back.

It's the finality of some things that sources resistance to them, I believe.

Once you do them, another level of acceptance imbeds itself.

Life.

It's been one of those days....the kind I have periodically to teach me to stay calm and be patient.

And, I was.

We've had some serious rain the past 24 hours, and it is now hot and humid as h--l. As I'm typing this, I see we are also under a tornado watch.

Lily woke me early this morning, hopping into bed to be very, very close to me, trembling and panting as it thundered and the sky flashed with light.

Once I was up, she insisted on being in my chair with me...close was just not close enough.

We did need the rain, but she so hates those storms.

The Interstate is plugged in in my driveway, a step up from its former place in front of the little house....because I bought a set of those orange, Lego type chocks, and backed the rear wheels onto a couple of them.

Level enough for the refrigerator, and so much easier than having it out front...hauling clothes, food, filling with water, etc.

We've always parked it out front prior to a trip, but it's time for a change.

To the dentist in the am, then on to Kentucky.

I'm ready for a change of scenery.

Poor Lily! Of course, she needed her Mommy person to make all things safe...make that awful thunder booms stop hurting her ears. Mine seem to gain so much comfort from trying to "become one with me" during storms. I don't like them either...especially when I know lightening has struck closeby!

Trave safely, Maggie. Evelyn.

We drove as far as a COE campground on Lake Shelbyville today...$9 for W/E, and showers. Hard to beat that.

We've been up and moving since 5am...just loading the frig, unhooking, and walking my hanging plant over to my neighbor for care and custody the remainder of summer had me drenched in sweat in the intense Midwest humidity. Ugh.

It is 95 degrees now, humidity is still high, Lily has taken care of business and is catching up in the AC on her days' naps. Sweet baby.

Me...I'm still doing some unpacking and putting away, after which I will have a glass of wine and drink a small toast to being able to take another trip.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....its all about reframing, you know....finding the positives and what you can be grateful for that still exist in your world, in spite of losses of whatever size, shape or sort, and then having a talk with oneself.

Doug would call this doing "mental gymnastics", and he would be right.

Get up, and keep on going. It's a survival skill.

If you ever get to Decatur, Illinois, which we drove thru today, they have at least 4 locations of this place...

http://www.krekelscustard.com/home

Yum!

I had a cone, and Lily had a little in a cup. Sh was a happy girl.

Real ice cream, not the synthetic, fake stuff they can't even call ice cream...because it isn't.

In my Inbox today was a notification of my portion of the Apple ebook settlement with Barnes & Noble, which went directly into my account there.

I'll take free money any day, and one can never have too many books waiting to be read.

COE is Corps of Engineer campground....federal, and they are among the best out there.

Always clean, very well kept, and on water....and 50% off with the Golden Age Passport.

I am settled into another on Lake Barkely in KY, for $15 a night, but I'll take it.

Most of the sites here are first come, first served, but they are already full up thru the 4th of July weekend.

I had planned on staying here until my next reservation, commencing July 3. Nope.

I was able to get a site in "the flats", which is exactly as it sounds...a flat, completely paved group site, with no group in it again until the 30th, when I must be out.

There are a couple of others in here with me, and I suspect there will be more before the day is thru. The camp host said this is one of the most popular campgrounds in the country. Who knew.

Not averse to begging when finding myself in a pinch, I called the private campground in the little town near here, which is almost completely long term rentals...but keeps a few drive thru sites for visitors and the occasional traveler in a pinch.

That would be me. .

They can put me up for the 30th-3, at twice the price, but beggars can't be choosers and I am glad to have found something.

Not liking to do intense planning, one must be ready to shift direction when necessary.

Even if it isn't the perfect spot, we are directly on the lake for the next 6 nights.

Lily is napping, I am making another jug of iced tea, and we are both cooling off.

Next...a walk down to the water.

Doug and I have driven into KY thru Paducah a couple of times before, but I have never been behind the wheel until today, and I wasn't sure I was going to make it.

A narrow, two lane bridge, high over the mighty Ohio River.

Once I started, there was no place to go but forward...like so many things.

If you have a serious fear of heights, you know there is a physical response that comes with it, which for me is serious tingling in my legs and my stomach, working its way up into my chest.

It was bad, and if I'd known the kind of bridge that was, I would have picked a different route.

If I could have turned around, I would have. I won't drive it again.

A Different Life II

I must say, that although you were mightily stressed, you managed to deal with the fear, and overcome it long enough. Do find some deep comfort in that accomplishment!

You go, girl!

And no, I would not have enjoyed that experience one bit, either. That's why I drive on the northern CA coast cliffs northbound only.....and not with the AS. I'm a bit of a chicken that way.

I could have just stopped on the bridge, and begged someone to drive it over for me so I could get on the floor in the back ... but then I would have had to get out, and onto that bridge...over the water... very, very high over the water.
