Thanks for that warning, Bud.

I won't let her loose unless I am out there with her, I was just meaning she won't need to be tied up all the time.

She will enjoy the river, we will walk, there is an enclosed porch...should be lovely. Wifi, too, they say.

Doug and I spent about a month in upstate New York some years ago, roaming the backroads and parking overnight by whatever small body of water had a nice pullout for the fishermen. Memorable.

It was beautiful and peaceful, and early one morning drinking coffee in the Catskills we saw a grey wolf chase a deer out of brush across the road from us.

We wouldn't have been certain it was a wolf if we hadn't seen it come back, sans deer, about 15 minutes later.

It was pretty wild to see right there.

Yesterday was rather hectic, nothing at all peaceful about it.

Going to vote this morning, take the car back, walk Lily, cook a bit....

Doug loved pumpkin pie, but one should eat only just so much pie crust.

I started baking what I called "pumpkin pudding", following the recipe on the can but adding an extra egg, a pinch more salt, and using 1/2 cup Splenda with 1/4 cup brown sugar. Bake at 350 degrees til done.

In widowed life, I still make this several times each season, as I love its' spiciness, and it makes the little house smell heavenly.

And it is a yellow vegetable, after all.

I had the thought this morning to put chopped pecans and a grind of sea salt over the top....because, why not?

My pumpkin pudding today is delicious...the pecans toasted a bit, and are just tooooooo yummy with the spicy flavors.

It's best warm.

It is a beautiful fall day, and the sun is shining thru my sparkling clean windows.

One of the many upsides to a small, one story house at my age is that I can walk around the outside to clean them.

We are due for some colder temps this weekend, and I am near ready for them.

Fire weather.

Sweet son was here for lunch with his Mama today, and nice for us to have an opportunity to chat without his kiddos bouncing around....dear as they are, it is a very active household.

Have started another prayer shawl, to have done when I go to hospice on Monday, and my box of scarves for Faithworks is slowly filling up.

Crochet, putter, cook a bit, visit with friends, crochet, think about my winter trip I will be leaving for the end of December....looking forward to much of the same but some new next year.

I am going to CanOpener for the first time, planning on visiting Doug's memorial bench in Brunswick, GA, and am meeting my Maine cousin/her husband on their way home from a winter break in Key West.

Each winter since Doug died has been a bit different, as I am still figuring out what works best for solo me. I am grateful to be able to go and do.

Could be much worse, and I know that.

No real news, but all is well at the little house.

I don't know what a Chet Brinkley moment is, but perhaps Vince will explain that to me.

A moment of truth, folks...if sometimes my post is a bit choppy and seems out of sync, that is because I am getting something written, rather than writing what is actually in my head.

Sometimes, what is in my head can't be written here, for whatever reason, but there are some who worry if I don't check in...so, I do, because I appreciate the people here, who let me share and be whatever I am and feel and think on any given day.

Unless it's something I can't share, which sometimes happens, then I read my posts and feel sure anyone who follows this thread will read between the lines...but maybe they won't, so I'm explaining it.

Chet Huntley and David Brinkley.

I love reading your daily dose. I miss you when you don't, are to busy or have no connectivity to jot away.

Your writing style is easy and friendly.

You can sometimes tell there is more to say but you are choosing brevity, judgement or using a forum filter.

That is exactly right, Hittenstiehl.

I don't share everything here, because why would anyone... some things are private or otherwise not appropriate to share, and some topics are prohibited on these forums.

Still I share a lot, and appreciate this always-present place and the good people who are a part of it.

65 degrees in the little house this morning, so I am indulging in a small fire in the woodstove.

Needlework group this afternoon, then the weekend will see the kiddos and I essentially finish what I do with the yard....in and amongst much play and the usual leaf weekend activities.

Love those babies, and they are a time-limited experience.

My yard guys will haul leaves from the back to the front in the next week or so, their near last task here, as I have hired a new service for next year.

Kind of hate to see the guys go, as they are young, strong, and enthusiastic, but there are some things I need more.

I will sincerely wish them well...and move on.

Bought one of these for the Interstate, and it arrived yesterday...I just had to have it, and at half price I couldn't resist.

It has a blower for heat, or can be run without the blower, just for ambience. It reminds me of the peat fires in Ireland, more glow than flame.

I like.

First tryout will be in this back bedroom Saturday night...formerly Doug's man-cave...where the boys sleep when they are here.

And yes, it has a sensor for turnoff if it tips over.

Caleb, in particular, is one of those long tall drinks of water who doesn't have a lot of meat on his bones, and always needs extra blankets.

He will love this.

Maggie, I like that little heater. Let us know how it works in the AI. If it works out I may consider one for my Goliath. Evelyn.

Spent a nice afternoon with my needlework group, and received a book loan from a fellow family-history-hunter..."Jacksonland", by Steve Inskeep, and about the Cherokee removal from native lands. Twil be interesting.

She has some American Indian ancestry, also is aware that Henry Clay...who figures rather prominently in this book...and I share a common ancestor

If I remember correctly, my 4th great grandfather and Henry Clay's father were brothers...something along those lines.

Walked myself home, and these are getting easier, tho level and paved surfaces help a great deal. I have somewhat babied my bad knees for years...both of which have had torn cartilage, one of which is prone to subluxation, ad nauseum, but they seem to be rising to the challenge.

Always good to see one's body do more than you expect.

Nothing much going on here. Up early, so the little house was cleaned by 9am, and I have a pint of seafood chowder I found in the freezer thawing for my dinner.

Yum.

Just started a fire...very little sunshine, and high only in the mid-50's today, so I can have a fire if I want one.

This is Carolina Chowder that I picked up someplace last year, so I will have a bit of the low-country today.

I like this quote, too...

Thx.

p.s. I don't crochet 😆 but inspired anyway. A little knitting experience so we'll see.
