Thanks.

We are doing the very boring I 80 eastbound, but did make a stop to see Fort Bridger...which allows dogs everywhere but in the museum ...and drove thru that area and Green River. Pretty.

If I felt up to any more serious road grades, I would detour thru something prettier, but right now I am just ready for simple.

Will do the back roads again in Nebraska and Iowa....starting to long for the little house, and to see the grands.

We are settled into a nice, reasonably priced campground in Rawlins for the night...which provided dog treats for Lily, and Andes mints for me, with their registration literature.

And, it's called the "Red Desert Rose" Campground.

Yes, lots of miles, and I don't know when or if I will ever be back to the West Coast.

It's been a good trip, all in all.

Maggie, how have the winds been for you on I80? They were pretty constant for me when I drove through. I was glad to get off I80! Good luck on the rest of your trip toward home. Travel is nice, but, when home calls to me, it is time to head for home. So welcoming and comforting.

I am not sure if I should plan so long a trip again, as my right knee is really giving me problems. I'll need to see what my future brings.

Safe travels, my friend. Evelyn.

There have been a few noticeable gusts of wind, but nothing serious.

Going to get off onto 30 after I cross into Nebraska this morning, and take it across to 92 into Iowa...much more interesting, to go thru all the towns.

Yes, Evelyn, there is a lot of knee activity, getting into and out of the our Interstates, but it is good for them in the long run, I feel....keeping my knees strong keeps me from falling, my goal every day.

I think I told you that I have been taking Glucosamine MSM for years, because my chiropractor told me to, and it has made a huge difference in the comfort of my knees...both of which have been torn and repaired.

Add to that, my orthotic levelers that he also recommended , and my activity level can stay up.

Eastward....Ho!

Yes, Maggie, I also take a joint support supplement x 2 daily. It appears the constant driving is the primary aggravating factor in my case. Not much to be done when so far from home, unfortunately.

Hopefully, it will eventually calm down. Getting old is no fun, but, much better than the alternative!

BTW, be aware of the regions in Iowa currently experiencing flooding! Safe travels.

Bummer, Evelyn.

I have had a couple of cautions about the flooding in Iowa...thanks, ladies.

There has been a bridge out for a year on the road that leads to Grace Hill from the south, so I always approach from the north...no rivers need be crossed.

There was frost in Rawlins when we got up this morning, supposed to be 80 later today.

So far, my knees are doing OK. However, the big toe joint on my right foot really complains if I keep it on the accelerator pedal too long. I'm finding I'm good for about 300 miles a day with my rig. More than that, and it takes me two or three days to get over the fatigue. I don't recover as well as I used to.

As I told my doctor, I have more ambition than stamina these days.

We are in a PA campground in Ogalalla, NE, after being on the road about 6 hours, which is more than enough. In the mid-70's here.

300 miles is a very long day for me...too long, if I can help it.

Dumped my tanks this morning, the modification All Seasons RV did on the dump valve making hooking up the sewer hose easier than it has ever been.

Also topped off with propane and water, so should be good til we get home.

Nothing exciting about the drive over...just point east, set the cruise control at 70, and go.

Should be in Iowa by Wednesday...

Headed home as well

Hey, Maggie, we are almost on the same timetable. I head out of Lennox, SD, early Friday morning, but I like to do about 600-700 miles before stopping for the night. I do stop half dozen times for all the necessities, so my day is 14 hours long.

I am opting out of the trip across Iowa on I-80, instead down I-29 to I-70 and I-65, then I-77 south to I-40 and east to home. The Iowa roads seem to have a lot of up and down stuff which with my trailer/truck almost drives me nuts. Actually, more nuts...LOL

Have a safe trip....

Yikes, Tommie...600-700 miles in one day!

That would put me in bed.

I enjoy the drive across Iowa...will take 92 from Omaha, go thru Winterset and some other lovely areas, and there are lots of pretty city park campgrounds to stop at.

Travel safe, Tommie.

Driving plan

Well, Maggie, I have a way of doing 600+ miles which sometimes means I do not get in the mileage I plan on. If i am the least bit tired, stop, short ten to fifteen minute nap, then on the road again.

The upside is I get to see the country, the downside is unless I have planned on a stop, I miss out on a lot of wonderful adventures on the way.

For next year, maybe late April, when I head back up to Sioux Falls area again, I will plan out several museum and other stops to photograph stuff. Meanwhile, how about Elvis....?

Each to his own...that kind of driving would not be enjoyable for me.

I love Elvis, as did my maternal Grandmother in Mississippi....he was a hometown boy who made good, to them.

She would wake us in the morning with her record player, him singing gospel.

If you haven't been to Graceland, you should go.

Very tastefully done, basically preserving his life as it was at the time of his death...costumes, the pink Cadillac, etc.

Elvis

Here ya' go, Maggie. This youngster was absolutely wonderful, very nice, humble, and his tribute to Elvis was as enjoyable as if Elvis himself had been singing.

I had an opportunity to chat with him for about five minutes after his performance. Felt like i was about fifty years younger....and I like this idea!
