Yep, 425 degrees might be a bit high for that dish in cast iron, but 375 would probably be good.
Cleaned my upper kitchen cabinet today...overdue.
Threw some things out, wiped with pine sol, and it's organized and tidy self looks like much better.
Also sat outside quite a bit, and had some visiting neighbors and admirers of the Interstate.
Lily has had a couple of walks, I have biked and done some cleaning...back on the road tomorrow toward Pierre.

Chill the white boudin (not the red one)
Slice in 1/2" circles
Pan fry with just a little butter... Keep heat medium low...to medium... When firm enough, remove and drain on paper towel.

Hi Maggie
We met briefly at the moraine view meeting this year and will see you again at the fall one. (I was the lady in the arm sling and we also have tHe Pendleton). Anyway, just wanted to say that I enjoy your travels and views on living and life. I am sorry for your loss of your best friend (husband) and don't know I could be as strong but take encouragement from your ability to go on and keep traveling. I don't post much, but do read the forum several times a week. Happy and safe travels!

First thing this am I went to the dump station, tho my tanks were not full there was an extra long hose on the water spigot there....when you find one of those, you dump your tanks and give everything a thorough rinse from the inside.
The campground host and his wife came by to tell us goodbye and safe travels, which was a nice touch. Most campground folks are polite, but friendly is always a plus.
We then had a beautiful drive from Watertown to Pierre, thru fields of what looked like corn and soybeans...tho the corn here is so small compared with Illinois corn that I'm not certain... and the most gorgeous fields of yellow, which I think was hay, as much was in huge round bales stacked in small pyramids.
Looked like scenes from a VanGogh painting.
Saw a few herds of horses, as well as many small bodies of water with flocks of swans on them.
South Dakota.
The Interstate has had its first scrub since we left home, and looks much more presentable, but beware those car washes where you stick in your credit card. $15 later I was pushing the Stop button.
We are in for the day at a little city park campground in Pierre...4 hours or so of driving in a day is plenty for me.

A Different Life II
Maggie
Have you seen the cattle all on open land with no fences as you drive west? It surprised us because we wondered how the ranchers gather their cattle & how they don't lose cattle to coyotes & wolves but after we got home I saw on TV that they only gather them every 3 or 4 months & that they do lose cattle to the predators.
Driving no more than 4 hours sounds pleasant as hubby usually wants to drive at least 8 hours in an effort to get where we are headed as soon as possible.!
Safe travels

Hi Jane!
Haven't seen any free roaming animals as of yet, and just as well as anything very close to the road would send Lily into orbit.
Sometimes you see burros in those herds, as I recall, and they are there to fight off the predators.
Wolves and coyotes can jump fences, can't they?, so they are likely an ongoing problem...I also think the ranchers can shoot them at will.
We had a heavy rainstorm in the night, my first awareness it was coming being Lily's wet nose touching my face to get my attention...she snuggled up close for the duration, and trembled thru it.
She so hates storms.

Sounds like you're having a pleasant trip.
Blackie and I left the airshow yesterday morning, and headed for the Amana Colonies. Thanks for your recommendation. This is a fantastic RV park! Even had a bit of airshow--a crop duster was working a nearby field. Full hookups are nice after a week in the boondocking mode. A Walmart stop on the way here has the fridge restocked. The laundry is done--in an air conditioned laundry room, no less!
I plan to be a tourist today and then spend one more night here before I head south for home. Enjoy the great West, and I'll see you at Shirley Valentine.

The Amana colonies is one of those little cultural pockets that are all over the US....we always enjoyed them, and I still do.
Old small towns are their own little pockets...love those, too. It's where we came from.
After several cool days we are back in the heat and humidity, but one can't have everything.
Doing a bit of laundry in Pierre, then on to Rapid City today.

Past fields of sunflowers and thru miles and miles of prairie today. The wide open spaces of the West.
Gained an hour, did a bit of shopping and we are settled into a PA campground outside of Rapid City for the night. It is a parking lot, but is inexpensive, with W/E and a bathhouse....all that I need.
Doug and I loved the Black Hills, were here several times and did all of the big tourist sites at one point or another. If I could buy a piece of land in Spearfish Canyon, I might be tempted to put up a permanent site there.
May drive to Spearfish the slow way in the morning, just to see it all again.

For those of you heading to Wyoming soon.
We had about a 10-15 minute stop in the Wind River reservation on Hiway 287 between Dubois and Lander when we were coming home from Yellowstone.
They were flushing about 200 head of cattle from 1 pasture to another. There were 3 workers on ATVs, and 1 on horseback. We were stopped still on the road with cattle being crossed first across the road, and then back again to get them around a small bridge over a little creek.
It was actually one of those "you don't see that every day" moments.

I think I would actually enjoy seeing something like that....not that I will be seeking out free roaming herds of cattle , but it would be interesting.

No domestic cattle, but, I did see a doe antelope and two fauns run thru campsite this morning. I was sitting out with Mikki on leash....she was watching dogs in site next door. Strange, that none of them even noticed the antelope...not a bark from any one of the dogs.
The antelope are so graceful and when running, they leap thru the brush. Camera, of course, was inside.

Did some tidying up this morning, then headed on to Spearfish, where Lily and I took a walk into the fish hatchery and surprised Bud/paiceman.
Did an early checkin at the campground, and next to us is an Airstream from Alabama, that I think is the couple who happened on the Moraine View rally in June.
Bud and Alice have already met them, they know me but are gone right now, and we're hoping to all go out to dinner together tonight.
That would be fun.
Cooler here, but still humid....AC is appreciated.

The Airstream next to me is indeed John & Nancy., who happened to be at Moraine View during our rally weekend in June.
Nice folks, full timers getting out there and seeing this beautiful country.
Bud & Alice and I took our three collective dogs to play in the river that runs behind this campground this afternoon, and the dogs had a blast. Lily not as interested in swimming as theirs...who swim...but she enjoyed herself.
We all then went out to dinner at the Bay Leaf Cafe here in Spearfish...had a great dinner and a good visit, a mini rally of sorts.
Heading into Wyoming in the morning, after I show Nancy how to navigate Airforums.

The most "interesting" cattle I ever saw in my travels was an all-black cow. Standing in the middle of the road. On a twisty Colorado mountain pass. With a cliff face on the left and a long drop into a canyon on the right. While towing. At night.
The most "interesting" cattle I ever didn't see was the one that converted us from tenters to RVers. We pitched our tent on a nice bit of grass in a National Forest, and in the middle of the night a cow came along and tried to move our tent, with us in it, to get at the grass. It ran off before we got out of the tent to see what kind of critter it was. Our first thought was bear, but the light of day revealed the cow hoofprints. Still, after that, no more tent camping for us.

Yep, you get to a point where sleeping in a tent is no longer for you....tho I have run across older adults for whom that is their preferred mode.
Us, we wanted to be enclosed and off the ground...done.
I woke early to something flapping and moving on the roof of the Interstate. The winds had picked up, but I knew the awning was in.
Outside in my Jammie's, flashlight in hand, I located the source of the noise.... the windshield cover, which I had neglected to tie down. The wind had torn it loose, and it's powerful magnets were holding on for dear life to any steel it could find.

A bottle of this wine was on each table at the restaurant last night, and I had a chilled glass of it with my dinner...then took two bottles with me.
Delicious and light....when you find a good Riesling, you buy it.

We had a terrific time meeting you, Lily as well as John and Nancy. I know Lily had a blast and like Hopey is amazed by our wild child Abby. Have a safe trip and enjoy.

We drove on into WY and found this spectacular site at Keyhole State Park.
Ray Eklund would be very proud of me for navigating the narrow and rutty road in, but the view is incredible!
On a rocky outcropping tent site overlooking water...but I'm small, so it is manageable. Can't get pics to load just now but will try later.
About 10 sites in this loop, only one other occupied...by a family, with kids having a great time in the water.
It reminds me of the campground at the end of the Gunflint Trail in Northern MN.
Will stay here tonight, to Gillette tomorrow and due at Brent & Connie's on Friday.
Then....
Maggie
