Yes, and you're in it!
You haven't confirmed on the Shirley Valentine thread, but you are going to be there, correct?

Waiting for labs to be drawn this morning, I picked up a 7 year old copy of O Magaizne and saw an article that seemed meant for me....and I could have used it in 09, as well.
By Martha Beck, she wrote about there being two ways of going thru life...
gathering everything in sight, just in case you need it, scarcity based thinking, or
trusting that you'll find exactly what you need, just in time, abundance based thinking
While there could be unwanted extremes on either end, it's an excellent concept to think about and pay attention to, I thought.
Periods of deprivation...of money, resources, people, food, love, etc.....wire our brains to always be preparing for the next famine, and can cloud our judgment for what to hold onto...and what to let go.
She recommends tamping down our inborn fight-or-flight responses, not focusing on the scarcity of anything, but instead on observations of abundance in our lives.
Just-in-case vs Just-in-time thinking. I like.
Hot as blue blazes today, and for the next few days, with high humidity.
Mimi and I will likely do a fair amount of siting in shade or the AC during our visit over the next few days, but that is okay.
Maggie

Thanks, Tommie.
My sister in law had a lumpectomy, only, yesterday...no indication the cancer had spread any further. Yeayy!
Heading out to Comlara in a bit, and Mimi will be arriving this afternoon.
Going to have a hot couple of days, but we will be on the lake and there's always AC.
I'm looking forward to this trip...seeing old friends, more recent acquaintances, and meeting some new folks.
Maggie

Maggie, I am relieved for your SIL, as I am sure she and her family are. Prayers help!
I hope the weather lightens up during your visit with Mimi. Hopefully the lake will cool things down for you. Enjoy your travels, stay safe. Evelyn.

Mimi and I are getting to know each other, and our dogs are trying to do the same...much barking and gnashing of teeth from them both, tho no blood shed nor fur flown.
It is nice to meet this woman who has been so kind and supportive, and we are having a good visit.
In spite of the heat, we're going to do a Tex-Mex dish in the Dutch Oven this evening...yum!
Mimi heads on to an air show in Wisconsin tomorrow, and I will spend a night with my SIL and hers, then start moving toward my friends in northern Minnesota.
All is well.

We have sat inside in the AC all day.....and talked, and talked, and talked and talked. Very enjoyable.
Both of our black lab mixes are alpha females, so they have been very interesting....a number of what Mimi calls "canine cuss matches" between them.
Fierce and ferocious to watch, but no physical contact by either to the other.
Dinner was delicious....a chicken and tortilla and spinach and green chile enchilada concoction, which Mimi is going to share the recipe for when she gets home in a week or so.

Hi Maggie!
By looking at that pic you'd never know the two girls had words with each other at times. They look to be waiting patiently for a possible handout.
Yumm! That dish looks so good, can't wait until Mimi shares the recipe! I love to find new recipes to use in my Dutch oven! My family really enjoys my finding them too!

Maggie is a good woman also. I really enjoyed our visit.
If I don't post that recipe in a couple of weeks, would someone please nag me about it. I have a good memory, it's just getting a little short as I get older.

From Wikipedia...
" Behavioral contagion is a type of social influence. It refers to the propensity for certain behavior exhibited by one person to be copied by others who are either in the vicinity of the original actor, or who have been exposed to media coverage describing the behavior of the original actor."

Had a good day with SIL and hers....her 93 year old mother, grandchildren at 12, 15 and 17 years, and her adult daughter.
Two separate households for now, soon to be one as daughters job moves her north and she takes her family with her.
All are needed to care for the 93 year old, who can no longer be left alone for any period of time, and the adult daughter provides needed back up to her mom as the two boys have become teenagers.
They can't do what they're doing without being in close proximity to each other, so they will move together, adult daughter leading the march and gradually moving into place as head of this family.
SIL has had these three grands full time for about 10 years, and saved their lives....if not actual life, close to it... and certainly their potential for growing up able to become happy and productive members of society.
Short of raising her own two as a single parent, with little to no positive support and input from my brother , taking these three in from their completely-off-the-rails mother, and giving them the stability, love and care they needed, is the best thing she has done in her life.
They are doing what families do, taking care of each other, and it is working. Kind, compassionate, honest people, everyone is getting what they need.
I am proud to know them, and to give what help I can.
We will mosey toward the Mississippi River later this morning, and start our trek toward northern MN and my friends there.
It will hopefully cool off. We dry camped in the front yard here last night, vent fan making sleeping tolerable once the sun was down, but humidity remains high and I'm ready for a change.

Wound our way to the Great River Road this morning, and pointed north.
Love the River Road, the old River towns, and the beautiful pre-Civil War homes.
Back in our pre-Interstate days, traveling up the River Road into Wisconsin and back was a favorite short trip of ours.
Had planned on going into Wisconsin past Dubuque, but a serious storm up there was a good excuse to pull into Thomson Causeway and sit farther south til morning.
I am tired, and Lily is pooped from 3 days of visiting, hyper-vigilance and insuring no other dog got much in the way of attention from me.
