Hi Gail!

I found beautiful, perfect-for-candling shells last year....the most gorgeous colors, that make me smile to look at them. Looking forward to some more.

We've had some rain....but, it isn't snow...it has also cooled off and we're fixin' to have a bit of a cold snap....but, going to be a high of only 16 at home today, with a low of 8. Can't complain.

Sun is shining today, and it will be beautiful.

Hunting down Sofia Coppola locally today, and going to get under the benches and ferret out hidden areas of dog hair accumulation.

I can smell them, so I know they're there.

They can hide, but they are not safe from my long-armed reach.

In Hobby Lobby yesterday, I bought this large and lovely rose for my solo self, and to have in the interior of the Interstate....just to look at.

It is artificial something, feels and looks a bit like soft leather.

Love Hobby Lobby, that's what prompted me to upgrade to a smart phone years ago, 50% off every day.

Pretty Rose, they have good quality florals.

They do have nice things.

I was looking for perhaps 3 smaller silks, but couldn't find anything I liked....this was the most natural appearing, IMO.

My first Interstate-produced soy candle.

I melted the soy chips in the glass in the microwave, adding more as needed to fill....a few drops of essential oil, add wick and hold down a minute with a wooden skewer.

Voila!

Better for me, and for the environment, and at the bargain price of perhaps $1.50 for a 6oz or so candle.

I will do this again.

Very nice Maggie. Looks just like one you might find in a store ....for $7-8. What type essential oils do you use? I love scented candles, especially in winter...cozy.

Wow, turned on the local news....downtown Denver is absolutely wild today....celebration and parade for Denver Broncos 50th Super Bowl win. Looks like 1/2 of the Metro area is down there! A sea of Bronco orange and blue. (Not me)! I don't do big crowds. I'll watch a bit on TV.

Hi Evelyn.

$7-$8 would be an inexpensive candle, too. They are ridiculously priced, in my opinion.

I burn a candle for several hours each evening...I love the flickering light reflecting off the silver walls in here...so I like calming, restful, pre-sleep, scents like lavender with a little ylang ylang, or lavender and rose.

You can do anything you like....cedarwood with lemongrass is another favorite.

My brother has bees so I get to make bees wax candles. I love the smell.

Hey there, Gearheart! August will be here before we know it.

I have never made candles with beeswax, but have used it to add stability to homemade lip balms.

A thin film of ice on the puddles as I walked Lily this morning. I did remember to turn my tank heater on overnight, and will have to do that for the next 5-6 days, it looks like.

Still, a good 30 degrees warmer than at home...so no complaints from me.

I'm starting to really look forward to spending some time at Huntington Beach SP....also a favorite of the Leake's, another rousing endorsement.

A new beach to explore and walk upon....it's why we're here.

One of the small pleasures I have been able to enjoy in retirement is reading....a rather odd variety, leaning heavily toward crime mysteries mixed with history, historical fiction, social issues.

(Vince...I read that book. I liked the letter to the goat best. )

I have been reading a book entitled "Such Good Girls", about Jewish children who went into hiding to survive the Holocaust.....some thru being physically concealed by brave others, others by hiding in plain sight thru adopting new identities.

Not the first book I have read about the Holocaust, and likely not the last.

Some of these children hid with a parent...generally Mothers, as the men were taken first...but many were sent to often a series of total strangers for safekeeping...while some or all of their family perished, one way or another.

What they went thru to survive is almost unimaginable, and how living like this for years affected them as they grew to adulthood after the war is very painful to read.

I loved this line, tho all were not so fortunate as this girl...

"She had put together a life out of spare parts and the kindness of fearless strangers, and had emerged from her fragmented childhood with a fighting spirit."

The permanent effects of trauma on the psyche, at whatever age. is something I have strived to learn about and understand for 30+ years....for lots of reasons, not the least of which were the survivor children and parents who dominated my caseload.

Scarred, and permanently altered by their experiences, survivors of all kinds of trauma walk among us, having pulled together as they could the wreckage of their lives.

We don't know what paths others have walked, and all scars can't be seen.

Be kind.

Our Therapy Dog volunteer work entails visits with people who often have suffered either one traumatic episode or a life time of trauma, plus we visit Hospice and Long Term Care (dementia) facilities. I no longer look at any of these people the same way.

Dogs can only take about an hour a visit a couple times a week.

Similar things as the holocaust are happening today -tragic.

Bud

They are, Bud, on large and small scales.

The capacity of humans to be cruel to one another....but not on my watch.

Nor my watch. The Yellow, Hopey, I've trained in Therapy and protection. She can do a terrific job at both, just not the same time, Ha, Ha.

Your trip so far sounds terrific - 9 degrees and light snow here and supposed to get colder.

Gave the Interstate a good scrubbing at a car wash this morning and made a trek into Target....which I very seldom do...but because...they have my Sofia Coppola, sparkling wine 4-packs.

I was out, and I wanted more. Target carries this, tho few places do. A bit indulgent, but I deserve a little indulgence once in awhile.

It is a beautiful, sunny day.... Lily has had a long walk, and will soon have another.
