I haven't even looked for succulents, am still Spring cleaning and pulling my yard together.

I have done my usual Friday cleaning this morning, plus moved living room furniture to vacuum under and behind...dog hair everyehere with a black lab, but she's so worth it ...and moved my stove and frig to do the same.

Carpet steamers will be here early Monday morning to do their thing on the most used areas of the little house, and I will be ready.

Going to get wood off the patio and into the garage yet this afternoon, and fill the rack in the house...it will be dry as a matchstick by the time I need my first fire in October.

Son and his boys will be here tomorrow to do a few things for me, and before they arrive I am going to do some painting.

I'm on a roll.

A Different Life II

Used to have a beautiful full-size collie when I was a kid in Florida.

Vacuum the floor in the house, and five minutes later when the dog walked through we had "wall-to-wall" dog hair all over the carpet again. Beautiful, smart dog, but she would shed constantly in the heat and humidity.

Have ceramic tile on all the floors here. The pack is all shortish haired small dogs, but it's no better😀😀

Maggie saw that Rumtopf recipe also and made me smile.

Made me think fondly of my Oma and growing up in Germany. Her Rumtopf pot was a beautiful ceramic pot that stayed in the cool basement with the coal and the canned jams. Opa would let me peak into the pot as he added the fruits Oma sent him downstairs with and then he added the rum.

On special days or on Sundays when friends or family came "zum cafe" for coffee we would pour just a bit over vanilla ice cream or a baked tart.

Nice memories.

There's something about alcohol soaked fruits that appeals to me...I may have been a housewife in 17th century England in a prior life.

I made something called Bourbon Cherries a couple of years ago that was outstanding...gave it away at Christmas and took the rest to the Moraine View rally to be served over homemade ice cream.

It was delicious.

I used up a bottle of Kentucky Bourbon that Doug kept.

I could, looks like simple and familiar stitches....the question is would I?, and that answer would likely be "no thank you".

Looks very nice, but labor intensive.

At a quick glance that looked like a pretty pillow. When I enlarged the photo I saw the detail. Oh my that's a fancy tire cover.

No.

Son and his boys have been here replacing locks and doorknobs for me today.

I might have been able to figure out how to do it, but didn't have to tax my brain to that extent with what feels like math to me, because they are handy and have done it before.

I baked them a pan of cookies...it's what Grandmas do.

A lady at my Needlework group the other day was talking about all the graduation parties she has been going to, and all the cookies she has baked to take.

I told her that I very seldom mix a single batch of cookie dough...always at least a double, bake what is needed for whatever and put the rest in the freezer...scoop them out onto a waxed paper lined cookie sheet, or roll the dough into logs, freeze and bag up to pull out as needed.

She had never thought of that. . There is almost always cookie dough of some sort in my freezer.

I am not one to crave raw cookie dough, but baked ones in the freezer would be tempting, so this works well at my house.

My mother had a chest freezer on the back porch, and used it all the time to keep at the ready what she needed for family and guests.

Slow Speed Vehicles

AMISH people drive buggies all over Ohio and Pennsylvania, and at least some parts of Indiana too. You know you're in Amish country when you see the horse poop. A golf cart is surely safer than a buggy - AND even the "plain" Amish have seen the sense of using the bright orange triangle sign for slow moving vehicles. Almost all now have battery operated LED red lights that blink to warn vehicles that there is a buggy in the road when it rains or at night.

There are definitely risks inherent in driving anything that doesn't have a crash cage around it, but in some degree that's offset by the more interactive role required of the driver - you don't have as many blind spots and without an enclosure you can HEAR trouble coming as well as see it. If it's a cow or pig in the road, heck you can SMELL it coming.

Naturally and slow speed vehicle is also reasonably limited to "clear daytime" use. But heck, part of aging for many people is to be restricted to daylight driving.

Odd - I saw a Maryland "slow speed" plate on a golf cart for the first time about a month ago. And then three more VA. plates in the last week to ten days - Guess it only takes one to break the ice.

Carpet steamers will be here early tomorrow morning....and I'm ready.

If I could find a market for shed dog hair, I would make a fortune.

I wonder if I could braid it in some way and use it for fire starters in the winter.

We have had a beautiful, mild, and rain free week, and today it is sunny with a predicted high of 85 degrees. No humidity, so it is weather perfect for almost anything....like bedding on the clothesline.

It is a slow news day at the little house, so just checking in.

Have made my first pitcher of iced tea for the season, going to settle back for awhile and read my Sunday papers.

I don't think I want to have it made into yarn , but seriously...I brush her and it just billows off her.

There is no such thing as brushing her til I get all the loose hair off...it never happens.

There are flocks of birds in this country whose nests are lined with Lily-hair.

Stanley Steamers was here for almost an hour, and did an outstanding job on my carpet.

Only had them do the living room, hall and my bedroom, but they treated everything and paid special attention to a couple of small spots...then steamed thoroughly, extracted completely, and it looks lovely..

I am a happy girl, and will be using them again.

Quick run to the store, and Rumtopf has begun.

Raspberries and blueberries, a pound of each, 2 cups of sugar....cover with rum.

May have to put it into something bigger to add peaches later this summer, but this will get it started.

Yum.

Volunteer Monday at the Hospice center in a couple of hours...where I will turn chaos into organization, working magic and wizardry with huge stacks of patient forms.

A basic premise of human behavior is that we are all the sum total of our experiences to date.

When I think of what I am grateful for, and what has helped me the most these past 2+ years, this place and the people within it are high up on that list.

"Life doesn't always introduce you to the people you want to meet. Sometimes life puts you in touch with the people you need to meet...to help you, to hurt you, to leave you, to love you, and to gradually strengthen you into the person you were meant to become."

Love,

Maggie

I have 44 pieces of this glass , most of which live in my front windows....but, on occasion, I pull one down to use as a vase.

These little roses were pilfered from a rose bush against the apartment building north of me....planted by a woman who lived there 5-6 years ago.
