38 foot Airstreams

Hi Everyone!

I was reading the Wanderlust book I got from Airstream and they made mention in there of 50 special trailers, built around 1964, for the Southern Pacific railroad. These trailers were 38' long.

I've been doing some Google research on the web and am coming up with absolutely nothing on these trailers.

Would any of you have any pictures or specifics on these? The book said there are actually quite a few of them left, along the rail road lines. They were used by the line crews.

I would very much like to learn about these trailers, and see one. Any help woudl be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I know these trailers have been discussed on AirForums before, but am not sure what "key words" you should use to find the thread using the Search function. Anyway, this photo is from the Vintage Airstream Photo Archive:

Here is a larger copy of the photo:

I saw a photo once, I think on the forums a couple of months ago, From what i remember that puppy was a sixty footer. It designed to be mounted on a railroad flat car!!! and used by railroaders at the yards or worksites.

How do you tow this baby without the back end draging on the ground?
