That is why I go to bed at 10:00.

Actually I'm known for New Years Eve parties where I have a big clock that is two hours ahead of local time. We all celebrate when that clock strikes 12 and everybody gets home at a reasonable hour. At first they scorned me, then wanted to make sure I was still doing it that way. This year we are going to a friend's house for New Years and she asked me to bring my clock!

What?!
No late night dancing and howling at the moon?
Ordering another round of shots just because you can?!

The 10 most Prophetic Sci-Fi Movies Ever

Any futuristic sci-fi fans out there? For fun, I did a search to see what movies in the past had predictions of the future that are now realized and found this great article by Popular Mechanics from March of this year in tribute to Arthur Clarke, British science fiction author, inventor, and futurist, most famous for the novel 2001, A Space Odyssey.

The 10 most Prophetic Sci-Fi Movies Ever

You probably have seen some of these. For the ones I haven't seen or even as a fun marathon of all the movies, I am putting these on my list. As my own pick I am adding Wall-E just for laughs. There is much more and details of both what has worked and what has missed, given movie by movie, here is the link:

The 10 Most Prophetic Sci-Fi Movies Ever

And here is the breakdown of 10 movies that really got the science right.

Gattica 1997 /genetic profiling

Minority Report 2002 /display technology and self driving cars

The Road Warrior (Mad Max 2) 1981 /resource wars

The Truman Show 1998 /reality tv

Destination Moon 1950 /realistic space flight and commercial interest in space

The Running Man 1987 /reality game shows

Blade Runner 1982 /urban development

Soylent Green 1973 /climate change

Short Circuit 1986 /autonomous military ground robots

A Space Oddyssey 1968 /space tourism

New Years Tradition

My wife and I had our first kiss on New Years eve while watching the Movie "Casablanca" . It became a tradition to watch it each New Years eve thereafter. This year we watched it 3 days ago in the early evening so we won't have to stay up so late. I guess it comes with turning 70 this year. Now I go to bed earlier and get up earlier than ever. I get a lot more done on the 78 I am restoring that way. My New years resolution is to pull the 78 as close to the rim of the The grand Canyon as possible this year and ride my Motorcycle to the top of Pikes Peak again. That was the thrill of my life. Snow, Hail, Lightning and Rain all within 15 minutes the last time I rode up there two years ago. Happy New Year Everyone and as Rick said to Elsa Four times in the movie "HERES LOOKING AT YOU KID"

Dick Clark, 79, still rockin' New Year's Eve

For those you ringing in the new year at home, Dick Clark will still be there.

Dick Clark, turned 79 last month and has been in front of the cameras for 61 years. He said his appearance on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2009," is a labor of love.

ABC-TV's 3 1/2-hour live extravaganza will include performances by Natasha Bedingfield, Fall Out Boy, Jesse McCartney, Ne-Yo, Pussycat Dolls, Solange and Robin Thicke. Fergie hosts the Hollywood segments.

Mainstream that is sooooo romantic. Happy anniversay of that first kiss. I see that romance is good for the soul and keeping you energized. Love those cool resolutions of yours too for the new year. Now that's living! Have a ball. And happy new Year to you and your lady. Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Don't forget the extra second of 2008 that is being added....seriously:

WikiAnswers - Why are they adding one second to 2008

Tick tock ... tick: Extra second added to 2008 | Oddly Enough | Reuters

Enjoy that extra second...don't let it go to waste cause it won't come back!

Now in case anyone grew up knowing exactly who Dick Clark is and how he got to be hosting the New year celebration on tv, then you remember American Bandstand.

American Bandstand was TVs longest-running music program and the first network series devoted to rock-n-roll.

That's right kids rock-n-roll was NEW back then.

American Bandstand provided the first national exposure of Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Chubby Checker among many others. Chubby Checker of course, did the "twist" hear the song here

That was so very different from jitterbug or the stroll of the times.
