Just back from paying a visit to Airstream of Arkansas and am the first person - except for A of A employees - to see the only 2009 Flying Cloud currently in captivity. Very nice. Not going to try and describe much since I'm not very good at it but am sure that within the next few days a bunch of pictures will be posted. Also had the opportunity to see the new Safari 23' Front Bedroom which I liked very much. Have now got a lot of thinking to do about buying a new trailer! Thought my 20' Safari SE would likely be my last trailer purchase, however.....................
Did the new Flying Cloud by any chance have a gas light like the old ones? Probably not a very popular item, but something I would like to see.
Thanks, Gwen
What size and floorplan was the 2009 Flying Cloud? Did you catch the MSRP? Very curious. I guess this means the 2009 year models are in production already, OK just a speculation at this time, I thought the year change usually came a little later.

The official changeover to the 2009 Model Year will be around May 15 I understand. At that time the Safari will no longer be made. The reason for the name change was that what is now the basic Safari design will no longer be offered and all 2009's will be what is now called the Special Edition - which means it will no longer be special but will become the basic design. So to avoid any confusion they decided to drop the Safari name and bring back the Flying Cloud. The one I saw is a 27' FB and is basically the same floorplan as the current 27' Safari - at least as far as I know. Hope this is clear as mud!
as i recall there are some new surface materials, but it's mostly a name change.
since a/s seems to be incapable of improving fit, finish, safety, weight,
or solving the corrosion issues and strengthening frames as NEEDED...
so instead they are 'innovating' by shuffling names.
it's REALLY too bad they do not seem to be able to offer real improvements, or better value in the product line...
or warranty improvements for the customer base...
i think it is gonna be really slow for them the next 2 years....
cheers

Yep 2air,
There was a thread started a few days ago with the same title that was a bit premature for someone of authority related to the OP, while it was up I conjured up a reply post something very similar to your post here......just before the thread was pulled......???
I could not agree more with your opinion......

well i can see mine going up in value already once they roll out the new sticker prices (not that i care about that, but it was the first thing that came to mind as i was reading this thread)....
i can't wait to see pictures either. i must say a 27' flying cloud doesn't sound very flying cloud to me. sort of an oxymoron.
i agree 2air, i think the next couple of years will be slow for airstream.
whatever happened to that other thread, i'm curious as well.

Hi, do you think they "changed the name to protect the guilty?" [I mean inocent!]
Ford made a nice car called the "500" and a wagon version called "Freestyle". Now they are renamed Taurus and Taurus X; Same cars, just differrent names. Ford claims this name change will increase sales. I haven't heard if this worked out or not. Is Airstream trying the same thing?
Well I got to see the 2009 Flying Cloud again today but only from the outside as I took my trailer to Airstream of Arkansas to get a bit of work done. It was well done and reasonable and my trailer brakes now appear to be working properly. One thing I'll mention about the Flying Cloud. It has a new stove hood that is much nicer than the one in the Safari's. Hopefully Gene will post a pic of this along with some others tomorrow.
