Hi, the other day I went to one of our local dealers, with camera in hand, to spy on the infamous "Flying Cloud" but none were to be seen. And the sales person never heard anything about any "Flying Cloud". Is this just a hype just to see if consumers might be interested in a recycled name? Actually, telling the truth; While I was snooping around the dealer lot, I did find a "Flying Cloud" but it was about forty years old.
I can absolutely assure you that there is at least one 2009 Airstream with the "Flying Cloud" name on it at a dealers as I've not only seen it but also been inside. This was apparently a demonstration trailer that was taken to - and purchased by a dealer - at the dealer meeting in AZ. Since it was sold to a dealer it seems likely that this name will make a comeback in 2009 - and the Safari name will be retired. It also seems likely that Airstream Corporate would prefer to be the source of information on this rather than one of their dealers. I am heading for Jackson Center now and will be there likely by May 9 as I have work scheduled to be done on the 12th. Will see what I can spy out when I'm there.
Patrick from Colonial Airstream did confirm that the Safari is becoming the Flying Cloud (a great name, IMHO, glad it's coming back). Now that it's May, hopefully we'll get the official word. I'm dying to see floorplans--want to see if there are more rear baths and if there is an alternative to that dinette/long bench couch with no arms dealie. It will be very interesting to hear what you learn at Jackson Centrer!
Well I just heard about this today for the first time after stumbling upon pictures and a listing on RV Trader by Airstream of Arkansas. So here they are...
$69,129 2009 Flying Cloud. It does look like a 27' Safari SE FB to me...
