Ummm..

So Chuck...

How exactly do you get up and down that shiny new driveway after a fresh snowfall, and maybe some re-freezing to make ice slicker... From what I remember of driving on snow, it looks like you could end up in the woods pretty easily...

John McG

>> And yes, I know, here in Calif many people can't actually drive in rain, and folks buy 4WD SUV's to go skiing so they can still drive 55 mph in the snow, without having to use chains... Sigh...

you are correct. you CAN wind up in the woods easily...
I've only had one really bad experience in the 13 years here.

Now, it'll be much easier. the plow will scrape it clean; when it was gravel, it was uneven, rutted, washed out...the plow would never get it "clean", and the leftovers would ice up. I'd shovel scoops of sand/salt mix across the surface to get just enough traction to get by. 4wd is required in the truck. 2-wheel won't get up the hill. (my dad has a 2wd truck; much of the winter, he parks at the bottom of the hill and "hoofs it"). front-wheel drive cars are generally no problem, though.

here's a 3.5mb movie of me plowing the driveway last winter.

doesn't show up in most of the pics...someone or something blocking it in most. but its there.

and to the far right of this one:

just the post with the conduit attached and the wires hangin' out at this point. haven't actually connected up a box yet.

you can also see the 2 conduits going up the wall of the house, to the left of the door. don't worry, the one w/ the cable doesn't actually connect to the electrical box; it pokes through the wall just beneath it.

So, just to follow up, my yard did receive the Road Toad for Christmas. It sat safely inside until the weather turned warmer, then took a place of honor in my new garden path. Still, something was missing from the scene, until today, when we had lunch at a local tiki bar and received some fantastic adornments in our drinks. They look right at home next to the little trailer (but no toads have moved in yet - maybe now they'll consider it...)

Toad-ay would be a good time to move right in. Love the pics. Another couple of drinks and the umbrella could have made a nice little shady spot for the toad-ster.

Christmas cards by Paige Bridges

Where can I buy Paige Bridges Christmas cards? I don't think she sells them, but someone else has the rights. Can't find who that is.

Thanks,
Pat

Hallmark is selling an Airstream trailer Christmas ornament. My wife just bought it for me last week. I love it. The awning pulls out. Wicked cool!
