10 watt halogen bulbs

I've read the threads where some CCD owners are experimenting with LCD's etc to save battery capacity in their CCD's. My question is simpler, does anyone know another CHEAPER source of the 10 watt halogens. They are over $5 per bulb at Home Depot and I just counted 'em. I've got 20 in my 22 ft CCD. I've just replaced the third one that burned out today. Getting the wretched little lenses out of the ceiling fixtures is a surefire fingernail breaker if you don't have thick nails. I just found yet another use for my P-38. (Now let's see how many people know what a P-38 is. )

BTW, before you do replace the bulb in one of these, just give it a light tap with a finger. I've had two come back to life for several weeks just doing that. I'm sure that moving the trailer will vibrate some of the filiments into breaking so I know I'll probably be putting in lotsa new ones. I do travel quite a bit on business and pleasure.

Oh, and thanks to the members here for pointing me to Camping World's nesting pots & pans. I got them. They are excellent quality and 4 pots and a skillit store in the same amount of space as a medium sized mixing bowl - kewl!

Paula, I've had this one on my key ring since 1976. A couple of uses I've found are opening CD/DVD cases, works nice to take the lid off a can of POR-15 and just this morning, used it to strip some wire to hook up a new telephone at work. It's the Swiss Army Knife of the American Army. Man, I gotta get a life.

I'm considering using the lights of the current era Airstreams in my '73 rebuild. The fixtures run about $18.00 at the local Airstream dealership. If the bulbs last less than a year, maybe I need to rethink this idea. I recently bought one of the 10w bulbs to experiment with (insert your joke here). If they burn out that quickly, then maybe they are prone to fail after a few miles of road shake, rattle and roll? Hummmmm....

A can opener. A fingernail cleaner. A screwdriver. A mini pry bar. A very dull knife. The first multi-purpose tool. A gift from Uncle S. But with cold, wet, or muddy hands its a early finger and knuckle torture device. Ok back to lights anyone changed their lights to hallogens in vintage trailers? Was it pretty easy?

When I went to www.swego.com they also had 10 watt Xenon? lamps - which according to their website last 3 times longer, can be handled bare handed, run cooler and don't give off UV rays. They were $.50 more for a two pack, so I ordered them instead of the halogen. I love being a lab rat.

Paula, ever see the movie "The Right Stuff"? Remember Chuck Yeager's line about lab rats?

I agree with Uwe. I bought a 30W halogen at Ikea for about $3 that was $5-$7 at Home Depot, as I recall. Worth a check if you have one close, and they have the right size.

Boy, do I wish!
They stock the energy saving flourescent light bulb replacements as well. At less than half the cost of HD or Lowes.
