Who owns a A/S Skydeck?

I'm the proud owner an 2004 Safari 28W. I love the versatility of a travel trailer and doubt that I would every want a motorhome...that is, until my kids are a little more grown up (they're 2 and newborn currently); then a MH does sound appealing (for my own various reasons).

When I get bored at home and surf the A/S website, I'm always drawn to the Skydeck. It's such a cool idea in my mind. But I wonder if it's worth the extra bucks in real life...

Obviously the rooftop patio is the big selling point over any other MH, but I wonder if the view of the RV park in which one is hooked into is that much better from the roof. I imagine most other RVs only look worse from a bird's eye standpoint. But boondocking in an awesome landscape would be, well, awesome.

At this point, it's still just a dream. But I'm wondering if there should be any substance to this dream? So, anyone with actual experience in a Skydeck, or thoughts about one?

I think the Skydecks main market is NASCAR and such. So perfect for the infield RV parking. You'd have to be really in to it to spend that much but there are lots of them. I wonder how many have been sold.

I had a chance to tour one last April in Florida. It was actually painted with racing flags and so forth, so I agree that was the intended audience.

I got the impression from the dealer that they were dissapointed that it had been there so long without a taker. They were offering an enormous discount off the sticker, and hinting they might take an unreasonable offer if I made one.

I was in no position to buy it, but it sure did seem like the ultimate "party bus." I though it would also be great for air races, wildlife observation in parks, and a few other activities likely to be enjoyed by those too young to afford one.

There was a show on the Travel Channel this past weekend called "RV Secrets" and they did a short piece on the skydeck.

They're pretty cool!

I was told by a large AS dealer that AS wishes they had never made the sky deck as they have lots of problems with them. Marvin

I saw the skydeck on the AS site and thought about infield parking also. We go to the NASCAR race at Phoenix every fall and envy the infield folks being so close to the action.

It's hard to get infield parking unless you were in from the beginning. I looked into it at Kansas Speedway this year.

They seem really complex and look like they would be a little top heavy. A ton of maintenance and cleaning.

The best figure is, no more than a total of 6 SkyDeck units.
