Things are cool, only made for a couple of years. They use many Beetle parts, and are basically modernized Kubelwagens. (this was a WWII era multipurpose vehicle, roughly analogous to our Jeep)
I have wanted one for years, just because they were different from anything else on the road. Of course, every one I have seen has likewise been either a small fortune, or beaten to death, and still a small fortune.

Thing
You can stay away from the gas pumps with the Thing, and just fill up on cola . . . remember, Things go better with Coke!

As a dedicated, I thought, never will tow a toad we have been looking long and hard at a Cabby or a diesel VW pickup. I can still get my bikes in it but not have to depend on others for rides when at rallies and we want to go roaming. I have found that the weight will be OK but still trying to find if I can flat tow it and if there is a tow bar available.

Chaplain,
I came across this little beauty on TheSamba.com. It may be the ultimate tow'd. Something that can hold it's own behind a Classic Moho, is light enought to tow, is great on gas and can carry four people and four bikes at the same time.
I'm on the hunt for a VW Double Cab.

TheSamba.com is a great site for all things VW. Oh that I still had my '81 Puma.

Update
Just noticed this thread again. Here is that Thing we talked about last year. It kind of looks like the one ALANSD talked about. We don't even know it's behind us. Ron

Nice ride!
Saw that other thread about previous camping....seems to be a serious connection between Airstreams and VWs. As MoHo owners we can enjoy both at the same time!

I did a double take this week when I saw a 40' pusher MOHO with a Cadillac STS "all four down." I'm posting on the Cadillac owners forum to find out what had to be done to accomplish this feat. Talk about taking it with you!

No pictures yet since it is a little cold outside but we bit the bullet and now have a car dolly that tows my wife's Mazda. Could not resist buying a complete, perfect condition dolly for $500.00. A local hitch shop beefed up the receiver so the weight will be OK. Chummy pulls the car like there is nothing there. I felt no strain uphill, down hill or accelerating. We have yet to take a long trip but plan one over New Years.

I'm currently rigging up my '64 Corvair monza 110/4 to tow behind the 250. This is mainly just to go to Corvair functions but you never know!

Toad upgrade-----what system do you use?
We have been towing our VW thing with a stock bug bar. We are going to retire the THING to our house in Mexico and bought a Mini Cooper S with JCW kit------oh my, lots of fun. We are going to upgrade our hitch capacity and were wondering what system people use who tow 4 down?? Blue Ox or ?? We have a brake buddy that we use with the THING.

What an awesome car! Congrats! I remember an autocrossing friend buying one when they first came out and his quote was, "It hangs more than I want to hang," meaning the car performed better than he was ready for!
