I have had my Classic on the market now for not quite a month. In that time I had over 40(!) emails and many phone calls from "interested" prospective buyers. Three folks even have been ready to overnight me a deposit, then changed their minds, two not remembering to tell me.
A bit frustrating, especially the one who was so serious, that I cleaned out all our stuff..pots, pans, dises, clothes, electronics, games, you know...all the stuff ........and more..
Anyway after all I wonder where the market is right now....no real buyers, it seems. Is everyone afraid of the gas situation? I don't see but a few Classics even for sale anywhere.
For us it is not a big deal as we are happy with our motorhome and intend to put all the stuff back in and keep on enjoying it.
It was one of those moments where you think you want to make a change...for change sake.....

I had a small number of inquires when I was selling my '71 Safari. I even had two people come by and look at it.
However, I think ultimately the asking price was too high for non-airstreamers to fathom. Most people, no matter how much investment you have into it will still conisder it an old trailer/motorhome. Unless they have been there they do not understand what it takes to refurbish and maintain a vintage unit. Not when they can go down and buy an SOB brand new for the same or less.
Perhaps the market is soft because the high gas prices. From the thread on motorhome mileage (~6-8 mpg often reported), I would think twice on that purchase. Either gas prices will come down, or people will get used to the higher prices... and the market will come back, at least partially.
I sold my 71 Tradewind by only advertising here on Airstreamforums. There were over 300 views of the ad before I got the first nibble and then there was a "flood" of interest of 4 people over two days but only one seemed serious. That was last January. That might have been a tad early especially in Minnesota with snow on the ground and cold weather but I got it sold the same week I took delivery on a Sprinter camper van the first week of February. For one week it looked like I was running an RV dealership.
Recent RV DEALERS MAGAZINE QUOTES...MOHO SALES OFF NEARLY 24% in one year..(2005 over 2004)
Trailer, towables, up nearly 9% due to FEMA~Says something...
No wonder A/S dropped the MOHO line of...RV's...
As was mention, fuel cost is but one driving force..
Just my input...sure don't want rain on your party..

Perhaps its because it is a motorhome. My Minuet sold in 6 days. Lots of tire kickers, some email inquiries but when it came down to it, it was someone who had been looking for an Airstream product for a long period of time. I just used the classfieds here, Craigslist and parked it on private property near a busy road.

The funny thing is: Those flushed with money want the biggest, tallest, all sideouts, etc..Those pinch'in pennies will pull back until a deal slaps them in the face and, even then...resist..lol
Either enjoy or wait...changes are good as long as it doesn't COST..

yeah a lot of good comments. I figure though that the person out there who wants a Classic, will want it whatever the gas does...it still s fun and interesting ride, and one that is hard to find.
As for us the gas prices are not so much a factor as needing a truck and trying to justify owning another vehicle. Then late last night my teen wrecked his Saturn, probably totalled...(no damage to though) so I will have to deal with that situation now.
Looking forward to camping in a few weeks...the whole situation will look better from lakeside with beer a in hand and my feet up.

had a friend with a classic that was on the market for over a year, finally found (after some searching), a dealer that would take it in trade. This was before the oil crunch.
