Run or well preserved

Me again..looking for input on whether well used or well preserved and used little has pros and cons if the systems all check out? Climate controlled storage and low low miles.
Let’s just say a practically new unit 30 years old run modestly over its life, vs units with wear 50k to 100k Miles and have had new ac, new fridges.., etc..if everything works and it’s serviced well and tires and belts and hoses all kept up do I move on a pristine unit that’s been babied? Thoughts and many thanks...

For me I would want a unit that has well documented maintenance records with regular and recent use. I think that other than obvious abuse and neglect, the worst scenario is when a unit has sat unused for a relatively long period of time. Possibly the best scenario would be low miles and well preserved but had recent and consistent use. It's a hard question to answer and may have to be evaluated on a case by case basis rather than a blanket statement. Good luck and keep us posted on your search.

Imho, a low miles unit that looks close to pristine is going to be hard to top. I would change hoses and belts, not forgetting about the brake hoses and drive it.

Personally I would hold out until I found a factory diesel also.

My factory diesel was a northern coach that was not used in the winter but regularly used in the summer on smaller excursions for a long time. The PO before me put 10,000 of the 80,000 miles on her over a period of 5 years. I've put 5,000 miles in 5 years, with one season lost due to the renovation I did.

I agree with Mike, finding a factory diesel (or even one converted to a 12 valve Cummins), northern coach (less sun damage), used on a regular basis in the summer, and you have it made.

If the owners have changed things like the ancient OEM Univolt converter to a Progressive Dynamics unit, or changed the air system, that's a good thing.

Cheers

It’s just nuts and bolts.....as long as the body is good, everything else can be changed, repaired, or replaced, Regards, Bob
