Roadside Assistance

OK its time to sign up for a Roadside assistance provider. Looking at the internet I am surprised to find a bunch of folks who are recommending Coach Net. I'd never heard of them, but wanted to know what my fellow A/S folks think. Thanks! Chris

Coach Net is provided to new Airstream owners when they purchase their trailers. Since we don't sell new Airstream motor homes, I can't answer if the same is done for them.

Before you sign up for extra insurance, check the towing coverage (usually very inexpensive) on your regular auto policy for this vehicle. This may be all the roadside coverage you need.

We have Farmers Insurance, have used it several times, and are very satisfied with it. One flat repair was on a remote highway, and Farmers even paid for the additional mileage from the closest town to the breakdown site (75 miles) on a holiday weekend. Total bill was over $400. Due to the remote location, we had to pay out-of-pocket. However, Farmers reimbursed all costs after we got home and faxed detail towing bill.

Example of coverage, extracted from Farmers Web site:

* Emergency towing - coverage of up to $150 (Note: If cost of service exceeds your program limit, you may submit reasonable and necessary towing and labor invoice for reimbursement.)

* Dead battery/jump-start

* Flat tire change

* Lockout entry assistance – if your keys are lost, broken or locked inside

* Roadside winching – if your car is stuck in the mud, snow, ice, or by the
side (within 10 feet) of a public paved road

My trailer insurance is thru Foremost. It does include a limited roadside assistance program. I also have a more extensive roadside assistance program thru Good Sam. It also includes all my personal vehicles. Details can be found at the Good Sam web site.

I have Good Sam as well. So far, luckily, I've had no reason to use it.

My State Farm policy also includes emergency service. I'm not sure of the specific coverage and limitations.

You all have saved me again, I have Progressive insurance and it cost me $22.00 more to add roadside coverage. They are sending me a kit with information and apparently they have a number to call if the service is needed. I'll add more info here when I get the kit. Thanks as always!

Good Sam took care of a tow and setup from the middle of nowhere on a Sunday. Nowhere was Ganado, AZ to Gallup, NM. They also helped me find assistance near PA-MD line last year when my truck went into safety mode.

Good Sam is what we have. They were very helpful when we had a flat on our first trip with the new camper.

Off Course,
I've been subscribed to several Moho forums and friends who used their moho's almost every weekend. They seem to think CoachNet to be the best - based on their personal experiences. If I had not gone to the "lighter side" (tin trailer), I'd be going with CoachNet.
Good luck!

Two years of CoachNet comes with the purchase of a new trailermasmwell. I have been lucky and never had to use it. Two flat tires have been at the house and at the campground. At the campground I used Fix-A-Flat and a 12-volt compressor. At home I took off the tire and had it repaired at a tire store. I don't jack up the trailer. I use an oil change ramp and drive the tire with air in it onto the ramp, leaving the flat tire dangling. Of course this only works for 2-axle trailers.

On the West Coast of Canada I use BCAA RV+. I have never had to use it for my motorhome so until I have a problem with it I will have to say I am satisfied. I have used it for MW's car a couple times, and also a failed fuel pump on my Caddy a number of years ago in Manitoba.
