Rear View Camera and Monitor.

Last fall there was a thread about a good buy on a rear view unit and I ordered one and installed it. It works great. Now a friend wants one, and I have done many searches without finding that thread.

Is the "Search" feature working right. It gives me hundreds of threads for each search. That can't be right can it?

Does anyone remember that thread. Can you find it and PM it to me?

Thanks Andy. Course we don't have a Costco anywhere near here. Maybe he could get it off their web site.

Bought one from Costco in December, it did not work and returned it. The second one works sometimes. I need to move the antenna to find the right spot. I am not very impressed with it.

Hey Gang,

Just got a notice about a new, high-quality PORTABLE back-up camera with a hand-held color monitor and a magnetic mount waterproof camera. The monitor has a 2.5" color screen with a reversible image.

I have one on order and will post as soon as I get it.

MSRP...............$309

Stay tuned............................................. ............

I've been contemplating getting one of these myself because I just can't see how I'll get over the hurdle of hitching up when I'm by myself. A friend of mine at work who owns a travel trailer (not an AS, but hey) says that he got used to doing his thing well enough that he thinks they're a waste of money. I'm curious what you all think? How many of you use back up cameras?

Hitching solo was never a problem for me....it just toom a lot o time in and out of the driver's seat to be SURE you were right 'on the ball'.

Now, with a camera, it's a one-shot deal and if anyone's watching, they usually make some comment about how they could never do that!

Sure cuts down on the time spent hitching up!

Nope, none of those. I have the system and like it. Just can't find it on the web anymore. Got it off EBAY.

Cooperhawk,

Try searching the airforums site from google with the following syntax.

search string etc site:airforums.com

I tried

backup camera OR monitor site:airforums.com

and came up with a lot of hits.

Good luck and let me know what you find. I'm really interested in a backup camera system as well.

Thanks!

Brad

I had done that, and I just used your syntex and did it again with the same results. I just can't find the one that I purchased any more. It was listed on EBAY and the guy was selling a lot of them. I like it pretty much, just can't find one for my friend.

This is what I have.

I have one camera on the tailgate of the truck and bought an extra camera for the rear of the trailer.

I fabricated a holder for the truck out of flat steel stock, spray painted it with black rustoleum, and mounted it over the edge of the tailgate with stainless screws.

I purposely mounted it high for 2 reasons. When using it as a rearview monitor at night, the headlights don't "blind" the camera, and when using it to hitch-up, I get a good angle view.

I replaced the screws with thumbscrews so I can adjust the view so it can be used to hitch-up.

When towing, I disconnect the camera on the tailgate and connect to the cable on the trailer.

I made a mount for the trailer camera out of galvenized steel and then painted it with silver rustoleum. It matches the trailer skin pretty well. I attached the mount to the bottom 2 holes of the license plate bracket.

It's worked pretty well so far.

Another nice thing about the camera on the trailer is being able to see what's behind you when backing in to a site.

One drawback so far - opening the tailgate when the trailer is attached. Camera hits jack head if not careful.

I have a nice camera and monitor for 3 years now.
It's still in the box waiting to be installed.
in the last 3 years I learned to hook on the trailor alone, and to ignore my better half when getting the trailor on the spot.
