rear bumper storage options

Hey all.

I need to make the most of exterior storage on our '75 Argosy moho. Things to consider carrying are spare tire, 2 bikes, 2 chairs, firewood, cooler etc...and at times still be able to tow a small boat. I've looked at hitch baskets which are more suited to the back of a smaller vehicle. I could see fabricating a larger one that can carry more things, have integrated bike racks, serve as a hitch extension.

Anybody tried this or have thoughts on it?

Exclamation rear bumper storage options

I carry my 400# Honda Scooter on a rack that fits in the receiver hitch on my toad car or m/h. Just remember, you have to factor in the leverage you put on the hitch as well as the weight. Most of the baskets I have seen will carry a max of 350# which might not handle all you want to load on it.

Don't know about your Argosy but the stock hitch on the Airstream MH is rated at 2000 lb. They wouldn't handle a lot of weight on a basket or platform.

Thanks. I haven't seriously looked at the hitch itself but beefing it up seemd do-able. I saw a double hitch adapter thingy that allows a tow ball and an uper receiver for a basket or bike rack. I'm also cosidereing a receiver on the front for such things.

Does anyone see the need for 2 spare tires?

I've got a receiver hitch mounted on the front of my AS MH. I put it there to hold a bike rack. There are photos in the thread "Has anyone installed a bike rack?" listed under the General repair forum. Look at post 28. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f44/...tml#post677903

Question rear bumper storage options

After thinking it over for several days, I have decided that the space allocated for the spare tire could be better utilized to carry Bar-B-Q grill, tools, hoses, and other items I can't fit in the 310 storage. I drove my last two m/hs without a spare, and since I have road service, why carry a couple of hundred pounds I don't need to? Storage space is at a premium in the 310 since we are downsizing from a pusher that had 156 cu ft of storage in the underbody. Many things are going to be left at the side of the trail it seems. Spare tire & wheel may not be on board. Ideas?
