Radio in the glove compartment!!

This is not important but it’s frustrating. I bought my 2003 AS LY 30” (Gas) used. I couldn’t believe this but the radio was in the glove compartment. Yes-I did say glove compartment. I understand the previous DW could not reach it so had it moved by a audio techie. Now I want to move it back to the correct location in the dash. Problem is I can’t see anyway possible to brace it from behind, above, or below. With the rear view monitor above the spot where the radio should be, and not knowing how it was installed from the factory I can’t see how to brace it. Has anyone experienced radio removal? Thanks. Steve

Howdy,

I don't know how your A/S was secured, but most of the large, high-end MoHos that I work in use the dash plate ALONE to secure the radio. They have no bracing at the rear at all..................YMMV

I have seen a lot of car stereo installations that use what looks like a piece of rigid pipe strap (metal strip with holes punched in it) to secure the back of the stereo. It attaches to the back of the stereo and it long enough to attach the other end to the firewall or other structural component. I have no idea if there would be enough room for you to be able to get behind the stereo to do this in your moho, sorry! It would be very difficult (if not impossible) in our 310 Classic.

On our 1984 310 motorhome there was just enough room to fit the radio, the back actually rests against some of the air ducts under the dash. So basically its fixed firmly in place.

I installed a radio in the glove compartment of one of my cars some years ago - It was the only way to prevent theft. Had three radios stolen, the last one only 2 weeks after a new replacement.Installing in the glove compartment put an end to that.

My 2000 LY 350 Gas has the radio in the dash,
No other brackets, just sits there , now the dash is cracked
If you install it in the dash make sure you brace it!!!

Thanks everyone. MYFIRSTRV has the same problem I now have, that is - a cracked dash panel and that's my frustration. Another member suggested making a dash panel with aluminum, then glue the original to it. I call Airstream for a new panel. Cost is $155.00 plus shipping. Thanks to everyone for the great response.

Steve,
That was my post on a different thread,
So I'm having the aluminum programed and cut on a CNC
My dash panel has two bends in it I plan on punching two holes one at the top and one at the bottom of each of these bend locations as a guild to make this crease
I guess I shall see how good my measurements are when I get it back from the shop.
When you called the mother ship did that panel come pre cut with the cut outs already there ?
