Motor Home Tag Axles -

We have recently had our Motor Home serviced totally and placed into good working order except for one element - The Tag Axles.Our mechanic is unfamiliar with the Tag Axles on our l987 Airstream 345 Motor Home.
Does anyone have experience in the proper inspection, and maintenance of these axles to insure their proper operation and condition? Are there instructions on the proper adjustment of the brake control located on the steering column of the vehicle.
Would appreciate any and all comment and information
