Land Yacht specs

Hi all - newbie here. I have joined in the hope someone will know the exterior width of a 1993 Airstream Land Yacht.

I can't find specifications or a brochure anywhere on the net.

This is of critical importance before I take the plunge and buy it.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum. A 1993 Land Yacht trailer should be 96" wide.

Whoops - I should have qualified the title - it is a Class A motorhome - does that make any difference?

I would have thought all your specs are on Airstream.com in the 90s Motorhome section. Look at the specs there.

Book specs 33.5' long 96" wide exterior. Read everything you can here especially about delamination of the exterior walls. Good luck in your search!

That 96" width is body width. Anything hung on the outside, such as an awning or side mirrors, will add to the overall width. So if horizontal clearance is important, add at least 24" to account for the mirrors.

After mirrors clear don't turn sharp or the 12 foot behind the rear axle will hit the wall

Red face Land Yacht width

Thanks again Gary - where do I find those specs or do you have to have the manual on hand? Are they prone to delamination?

Re the mirrors etc - they are not counted in the width, (however, need to be folding), nor are handles etc.

Purely the coach body that matters.

First place I looked was on Airstream.com, but where are motor homes mentioned? I can only see Travel Trailers and Touring coaches. Can you give me a link to 90's motor homes section?

Cheers

1993 Land Yacht M/Home

The other thing I need is the wheelbase measurement, if anyone knows it.

Overhang can't be more than 70% of wheelbase.

Someone mention 12' overhang on the Land Yacht - wow that seems a lot? Would we need a track bar fitted to counter such a long back end?

I have had to discount several brands because of the overhang being more than 70%, which is a bit hard to tell from photos.

If I can get this to scan...There! You asked about delam=almost all MoHos in the 90's into early 2000's used a "sandwich" of fiberglass over luan which will delaminate if it leaks & may even dry if it is stressed. So read up it is not always fatal & it can be repaired, but you have to be prepaired. As to the site look at Land Yacht & Legacy under Motorhomes.

Going to re-label myself "dumb blonde"!

This is the site I'm going to... https://www.airstream.com/ and I can't see anything about motor homes - only Travel Trailers and Touring Coaches.

Am I on the wrong site?

BTW Gary - I did find that specs sheet earlier, but guess what's missing? The exterior width!

Oh I thought you meant on this site. On that go to service then out of the drop down "archive". scroll down through all the trailers & you will get to motorhomes. Classics, Land Yachts, Cutters & diesel pushers.

Thumbs up

Thank you so much Gary - I would never have thought of looking in "Service".

I have now found all the info I need, except the exterior width, which doesn't seem to be on any of the dimension lists.

Wheelbase ratio seems to be o.k.

However, if it's 7'6" interior, I'm presuming it wouldn't be more than 8' exterior.

We're allowed 98.5 inches max. and 70% of the wheelbase rear overhang.

There seem to be many Airstream enthusiasts out there - any particular reason for this? I know very little about the relative merits of USA RV's.

Mine's 96". That was the standard for years until Federal Hwys changed to 102". 7'6" inside + 3"walls.
The following comes from the iconic aluminum sided trailers & later motorhomes. The perception is that they are well equipped, expensive when new & well built.

Hi again - I really want an Airstream, but am finding it hard to locate one.

I have however, found one or two - one is a 1990, reasonably low miles and clean except for the back corner of the bedroom where it's obvious there's been a leak. (Wallpaper all wrinkled). There is no delamination at all.

(Advert said "no present or past leaks")! I'm not sure whether to buy it or not - can I trust this dealer to be telling it as it is?

Question is...are they aluminium or steel framed, or timber? I tried to find this info, but so far haven't been successful. Would make a difference to what damage has been suffered, if any.

I would appreciate your thoughts

They are steel. If you go to land yacht (u r now in general more ho) & search delamination u will see what can happen .mine had some leaking u will find damage by pushing on inner & outer walls where are you what's the price & no don't trust anyone. Find out for yourself now or u will find out later.
