Interested in an Airstream Funeral Coach?

I was at our farmstand today talking to a customer. He drives for a funeral home & lots of times comes through with a hearse. I tease him & ask if he's "traveling with a friend today or alone?" Anyhow, today I was talking with him & told him I saw an Airstream Funeral Coach on the internet. I asked him if he'd ever heard of them. "Oh yeah", he said, "I've got two of them." I couldn't believe it! I asked how many miles they had on them, but he didn't know. He did say he'd like to get rid of them. He said they hadn't been used in quite a while. I asked how much he was asking for them in case my friends here were interested. He told me "tell them to call me and I'll give them a good deal".

So, for anyone who is interested, you can PM me & I'll give you his name & phone number. I'm not interested in a project of that size, but I'm sure someone will be. I have no more information that what I just told you. Don't know the year or anything. I'm not even sure where this man lives. I'm sure it's not far from our business in Chicago Heights, Illinois, since he comes often. For my friend, Ross, thanks!

Becky, do you know if a loaded hearse can use the carpool lane?

Becky.

You'll have to excuse Terry, he's a bit twisted.

Are they a trailer style or motorhome? Can you post a pic or a link to the one you saw online? I'd love to see what they look like. I'm sure others would too.

Take your pick....here's a few...Fred's Airstream Archives - Airstream Funeral Coaches

Seems like it would be kind of creepy to convert that rear 'storage' compartment into a rear bedroom...on the other hand, maybe one would be able to sleep better, you know, quieter perhaps...

Actually that was argued by a Hearse driver all the way up to the California Supreme Court.

The Court ruled that once you are bereft of life you go from a person to a corpse and as such do not count as a person for the carpool lane.

Now you know.

On the other hand, most of the occupants have not been running around tearing the AS apart and scuffing the floor up......

Plus they didn't use too many of the trailer amenities or really even drive that far...

Okay, I was having a blonde moment & I was tired!

I have a few responses in my private messages that I have looked at. I think I'll call Ross today & tell him there will be people calling him. I'm sure he doesn't have an email or probably even a computer. He's an older man & probably keeps things simple. I looked at his phone number & he didn't put down a area code (we're right on the border of Illinois/Indiana) so I'll try it out today & get back to everyone tonight.

I for one can stand up and say that the 28 FC is a beautiful thing. You sort of have to get the kinks out and do a little remodeling but then it is what you make it.

Most of the 28's had a small 2 piece washroom but no shower.

The 27's had wrap around lounge seating and no water to my knowledge.

Once you dismantle the 1 inch plywood "casket chamber" and make the access to the back a walk through everything is wide open.

I'm actually ready for a backup.

Speaking of Blonde moments: This Blonde walked down to the edge of a river and was looking for a way to the other side. She saw another Blonde on the the far bank and yelled out "How do I get to the other side". The other Blonde thought for a minute and yelled back" You are on the other side"

Well, I just got home from work. I tried the number Ross left me. It didn't work. I tried 3 different area codes too. I'm sure he'll be back in a week or so, so I'll PM all of you who PM'd me with the good number after I talk to him again. Sorry to get everyone excited for nothing. I'll come through with something, though!

Becky, you could Google the name of the funeral home, you may get the correct phone number that way.

I have no idea of the name of the funeral home. I just found out his name yesterday. He's a regular customer of 100's of them, so the fact that I even had a lengthy conversation with him is coincidental to say the least! Don't worry, he'll be back. After all, it's corn & watermelon season!

Corn and watermelon? What could a funeral home possibly want with--Uhh, never mind, I don't think I want to know.

Just like the last FC scare... new guy posts about one and then never comes back to the forum, never replies to emails.

These things are like phantoms. You hear about them but actual sightings are rare for sure.

Really, Glen, the guy is real! I'm not a new person on the forums either & I have no purpose for getting anyone excited for no reason. I'm sure he's legit & I'll get his number shortly. Just a little glitch! I just can't believe he has 2 of them!

I'm sure he is real. I'm just laughing about the fact that each time we've heard of a funeral coach coming up .... it doesn't.

I know they're real, I've got one. Most folks don't believe they where actually made.
