How to ship an airstream cross-country?

Hello,

I am in the midst of purchasing an airstream in Texas, meanwhile I am up near Toronto, Canada. Does anyone have any idea as to what the most economical way to have this trailer shipped to me would be?

Whether it be put on the back of a trailer and shipped, or hired out to a professional driver to tow behind their truck, I'm open to all options. I'm a bit concerned about the idea hiring someone off of craigslist to drive it up for me, however, I will even entertain tips on how to go about doing that properly (to mitigate donating my trailer to someone's chop shop).

Thanks in advance! Love this forum.

Will the MH make the trip? then Drive it.
Why not take 'vacation' to pick it up and drive it back yourself (if it breaks down, get it fixed.... that is what most folks do.

If it is not serviceable, are you planning to make it a project?

Crossing into Canada, certain paperwork will be necessary.. if you are the 'owner' it may be simpler to meet at border and bring it over yourself...

Unfortunately I won't be able to make the trip myself. I don't yet have a truck that can tow this trailer, and my work schedule does not permit such a vacation. Wish it did!

Try Uship.com. They will give you an estimate based on size of trailer. Also you can bid between transporters.

Thumbs up U Ship

I recently used U Ship to haul my AS from FL to TX and they did a fantastic job. I would highly recommend. Additionally if you see SJ Parks Enterprises, that is who I used and they were great. Great rate and communication was perfect. They went above and beyond to protect the interior because the front window was broken out.

maybe the seller wants a vacation trip north? Or someone in the group? My 40' diesel pusher could handle it but i have no plans to head that way anytime soon.

Your dealer or perhaps even Jackson Center should be able to provide you with competent transporters. That is how they get the trailers moved.

I moved an Airstream from NJ to CA using SHOWROOM TRANSPORT. 1-800-462-0038.
It arrived on time and was not damaged at all. Mine was moved on a car mover trailer, met the driver and it was ready to tow home.

We bought a 25' in Kansas and had them ship it out to Seattle, and it cost $2200. They hired a guy with a truck who then towed it out. Not sure who they used (could probably call Central RV for who they use) - but this gives you an idea on cost.

ditto on the Uship.com recommendation - I've shipped 3 vehicles at a fraction of the cost of an "agency" or "shipping company"

What size and year is your Airstream? I might be able to do it for you for a fee.

Movie Prop

My Panamerica was carted from Dallas to Atlanta by a commercial hauler via flatbed "low-boy" 18-Wheeler. The movie transportation captain arrange for a gang to lift, secure, and haul. Amazing to watch it being done! How far from Dallas are you? One tip: Insure, Bond, get ALL details you can on anyone you assign the task. I winter in Dallas; spend summer on the road (or in MI).

If I was looking to tow a Moho I would be looking for a trailer like this. Rental houses all over the country use these to haul large equipment. They are fast, easy and safe. I have a friend that used to drive one of these daily. If I needed one he could hook me up. If I was in a strange town I would call a rental house. Towing companies sometimes have this type of trailer as well. They help rental houses handle there overflow.

Shipping from Maine to California

Hello:

Does anyone have any recent experience with someone transporting an airstream across country? Who did you use and what was the price? We have a 26' Airstream Overlander (1967) that I'm looking to have moved from Maine to CA on a flatbed.

Thanks!

Hey,
Up here in the Midwest we see a lot of trailers being delivered. Most of them come from the Elkhart and Mishawaka, In. area. Anyway, the guys that haul them often times go home empty. You may be able to talk to a local RV dealer, and see if one of these guys is bringing a trailor down. Maybe he ll haul yours back for a reasonable rate. Just a thought. DJ
