Well, I always have my eyes open for Argosys to come up on the classifieds, but they are pretty rare.

Hey there--
I'm pretty much a newbie to the vintage airstream scene, but have been eyeballing the ads for old trailers for a year or so now (the itch is growing worse, I fear), and since you're chatting about finding a rear bed, center bath, I'm curious: It seems like rear bathrooms were more common in larger trailers during the '60's & '70's while center side baths in more recent models. Was there a reason for this? Like, easier access to pump out/repair black tanks, or better overall weight distribution? (Of course, I could be imagining the trend...).
Thanks,
Hallie

At a 20% exchange rate and a couple of grand off, this could be a deal for someone.

250s are great. Small enough to get into every state park, easy to drive - 4l80e with overdrive, great fuel economy. Many 250s were LE so had corian, ozite, shower, full kitchen and plenty of room to sit down. I've been driving my unit for seven years. We have three kids and have driven it coast to coast (well Northern CA to Galveston) and since 2008 all around England and Europe with very few issues. It sleeps five, which is a squeeze, but has served us well. An unbeatable ride with unbeatable family memories.....but I've only seen one come up in the last two years so pretty difficult to get hold of!

Thought it maybe useful to expand the previous comparison image to include a 24ft Argosy (which are pretty common in rear bed format) and 250 (which are like hen's teeth)
I also added the 'before' layout for the standard 20ft rear bed Argosy layout...
....and just for scale I included a rear bed 370.

I don't think there's any physical reason for it. Perhaps someone else noticed that the best views were out the bathroom window and decided to move things around I must say, a rear bath is nice and roomy, but how much time do you spend in the bathroom?

Would a roto-dinette like Fred's 20ft Argosy fit that category?

We just recently purchased a 2002 26' land yacht with a double bed in the rear. We purchased it because it was small but well laid out. We are to old to climb over the front area to sleep like the b or c. Presently upgrading camera & tv. Drives well 8.1l chevy.

Please, please post many pictures. I have an '82 28' with rear bath. I have had a crazy idea for a long time to put the bed in the rear, but I have never figured out how I would deal with the rear duallies and a bath, toilet, shower an tanks.

On my little 20ft, the wheel wells sit within the bed bases. Then on the drivers side I have the Magnum inverter/distribution box, and also the 'cubby' for the 200w Zamp panel, above and to the side of the wheel well, leaving the area behind the wheels for storage. On the passenger side we have the fresh water tank and pump behind the wheel and storage above.

Today's lesson: Drink coffee before posting.
The current Interstate models are all built inside the largest Mercedes Sprinter body (Class B). There are other Class B motorhomes but those built on the Sprinter chassis are the largest inside. Here's my current list of Class C motorhomes with rear beds.
I didn't distinguish between Class B+ and C because they all are built using a cab/cutaway chassis. If I've made any errors or omissions, please let me know and I'll correct the list.

I have a 97 LY diesel pusher (35') that has a queen bed in the rear with walk around access on both sides. Sometimes I find myself sleeping better on the Airstream than I do in the house!! Just moved cross country with it in October and might still be living on it if I was not so cold in Montana in winter. Can not wait to get it back on the road in April.

The 250 is the one to go for. TBI, 4L80E, cruise control, single axle, fits in most state parks - last year of the classics. What's not to like? PM me if you need any more info on the 250 because I am a tragic trainspotter. x
