Good Sam Extended Warranty

Did a search, but couldn't find much, so I'd like to know what folks here think about the Good Sam extended warranties. Good deal, or not?

This would be on a low mileage '05 396XL.

My vote goes with "Not."

To my mind, the only time the extended warranty makes sense is if you have a limited budget, in which case the cost of the warranty is a known cost that can be budgeted. This versus an actual repair cost which is an unknown value at an unknown time in the future— until and unless the damage actually occurs— which of course can't be budgeted, only paid after the fact.

If your motorhome is in reasonably good condition and you take reasonable preventive care of it, you're more likely to lose money by purchasing the extended warranty than you are to save money.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that an annual service contract covering repairs, not a warranty? If I'm correct I agree, NOT!

They actually call it an "Extended Service Plan", but it covers lots of things, with a deductible of course, and the actual "service" is on the owner and required for the "plan" to be valid.

Sorry. Meant to say I wouldn't want to do that with everything, like health insurance, homeowners and car insurance, but otherwise I try not to buy insurance if I can avoid it. I'd rather put the money aside in my own account for repairs if needed.

Good Sam used much more friendly toward to RVer than it is today. Gradually, it seems they're turning into an insurance company, selling overpriced, plans that they know aren't going to have very many claims.....we do keep their road service, which is fairly good.

We are constantly getting junk mail from them selling everything from cancer only insurance to a "medical adviser", policy.....Just be sure you read the fine print before you send any money..

I'm not sure the feedback received so far has answered the original question. Are there any current Good Sam customers who have anything positive to say about the insurance in question? Also, any current customers with a cautionary tale? Just curious as we also are bombarded by all the ads and mass mailings.

I bought one 4 my 43' Allegro for $3000 for5 yrs when it was up they wanted $8000 for 3 yrs! Full timing on a tight budget I had dump the bus for my airstream. Just saying.

I bought a 35xc year 2000 last year, had full service records, milage 95000, one owner. I chose to keep the extended warrenty plus I had Good Sam Road service plan. The roadside plan cost 85$ the extended warrenty was 1300$. Took unit in for full service at cat dealer before a trip last winter, spent about 2000$ on service work. 300 miles into our snowbird trip lost high pressure pump. Unit had to be put on flat bed and hauled to dealer (cat) 1600$ for the haul. Dealer cost was 2300$ ,, haul was covered by roadside service , pump replacement covered by warrenty, cost out of pocket was about 300$. I came out on the positive side. I will buy the warrenty again this year . Ron
