Actually, great question. I have no idea what you found unless it is someones handy work trying to show off.

I'm guessing its a diesel merc powered bus that has nothing but the Landyacht name on the side to connect it to Airstream. Its like calling a copier Xerox.

It also has the Airstream name on the front and rear, but that can be copied too. It's really an odd duck. Small washroom with a "porta potti"? 6 diesel tanks added underneath to tour Iran....why am I picturing an exposion?

It's a motorhome quite typical of the ones once made and sold in Europe. This one happens to be built on a MB 508 truck chassis, not a bad chassis at all. It's good for up to appr.11000lbs, and has a Mercedes Diesel with appr. 80hp in it. We used these trucks second, third or fourth hand to transport our band equipment back in the late 70's.
The example in the auction is on the larger side of European motor homes. Most were VW van size, or based on Mercedes's 2- and 3 series trucks.

Airstream and/or WBCCI have run caravan's in Europe after it became finicanial unattractive to ship a trailer and tow vehicle over there. I beleive the usual plan was to locally rent Class C MH's. Could it have been that on one early such trip Airstream actually had the MH's badged as AS's, and this is a remnant of that caravan? If so, it would be quite a peice of history.

On the other hand it could be the RV equivalent of 'ricers' - those wanna be racers who rebadge their hondas to look like expensive japanese hi-po models.
I have seen a lot of people on craigslist lately advertising their white boxes as Airstream because they are made by the same company - Thor.

That makes sense, and I recall hearing about those caravans too. Might be worth while for someone that has access to one of the older WBCCI members to ask about it. I met one 2-3 years ago that had been on the China Caravans, she had a lot of interesting stories to tell about the trip.

Uwe,
Have you ever seen something like this badged as an Airstream before?

Never. But it is from England, and the name Airstream is used in many other applications.

22' Ambassador?
Anyone want a " 1960's Vintage Airstream Ambassador 22 ft...We believe this Airstream to be a 1962, 22 ft trailer"
I've never seen a 22' Ambassador I wonder where they bought their tape measure.
Who knows, it may be a deliberate ploy to get more people to look at it since the shorter units are typically more sought after.

It's a horrible mistake is what it is .
I know Airstreams are now being made in the UK - my buddy sent me a ton of info on them, but I didn't realize they were doing this with the white boxes. Oh, how sad, but how typical if it truly is an Airstream, even if it is in the UK. .

I love the description, particularly the part about the toilet: THERE IS A PORTER POTTY IN THE SMALL BUT ADDIQUATE TOILET AREA.
Then there is the mechanical problems he had, quite the honest chap.
