Direction change........

My wife has just suprised me. Instead of a nice AS trailer, she now wants something we drive, not pull. SO, ferget about trailers, we are now shopping for motor homes (actually just one motor home):

24 to 28 foot
Airstream/Argosy
Chevy 454
No particular floor plan.
Everything should work (ha!)
Mid 90's (Airstream) or 78 (Argosy).
Low miles.
Decent price.

Any search advice, leads, would be appreciated.

PPL in Houston has two AS's

Bill in Texas:

PPL currently has two class A's on their lot. A land yacht and a classic.
I have to run down there at lunch for a sewer valve rebuild kit, so after checking their site out HERE PM me if there is something in particular you want me to look at. Don't have a camera with me today.

PPL doesn't allow any junk on their lot, and all systems have to be operational for them to rep it.

Bill,
we decided to go Airstream MH instead of TT and have been very happy. You might want to try a few of the classified websites out there.

http://www.rvtraderonline.com
http://rvsearch.com
http://rv-online.com

While there are many dealer ads there are usually five or more classic MH's and/or Argosy MH's from private sellers. You may also check the Vintage Airstream Site's classified section. This site seems to add new units all the time.

http://www.airstream.net/classifieds/index.php

And of course the "For Sale" section on this forum

Good luck and happy hunting

EBAY

I know there is some controversy over this issue but there are at least 3 MH's on Ebay right now. Argosy and Classic

I've been watching the ebay offerings. I may bid on the 28 ft LA Argosy. That one seems to be from a dealer. They do need to learn how to spell "Argosy". It's a high miles vehicle, with 96k and 1500 on the generator. They assured me that everything works except the cruise control, and they were going to try to fix that. I might go to 8k max on the bid. Still trying to decide. While not trying to hold you to anything, would that sound about right?

How about a couple of 454 questions?

What to look for. Like heat shields!
Milage to expect.
I'm a fan of slick 50 and synthetic oil (many years), and have never had an engine failure. Any reason it can't be used in a 454?
How about cost to replace (with a rebuilt) the engine?
Cost for a new one?

Help!

you can get a rebulid from autozone for $1800 would think you can get it installed for $2200. then that depends on who does it. to r&r a motorhome engine is a lot of extra work.
