cost of painting Argosy

Anyone had their Argosy painted? I am wondering what the approximate cost was. I'm guessing about $4000.00. Thanks

I have not had the need to have it done but there are a couple things to know. The end caps are galvanized and require special priming to get paint to stick. Also the aluminum body needs special primer not the same as the end caps. Watch out for this when you get an estimate. Make sure your painter knows the difference, it would be a shame to pay $200 to $300 per foot and then have the paint peel.

Paint Job Opinion

I would suspect that Gary's estimate of $200 to $300 per foot is close.

It all depends on the quality of the job - compare to automotive paint jobs, which can range from the (old) "Earl Scheib 99.95" (but now, I guess $300 to $500 cheapie "in and out, don't bother to sand or mask") to the competitive $3,000 to $5000 jobs.

I just priced out having a car painted in Houston, found the price for a decent paint job to be $1,500 to $2,000, with no body work required.

Depending on the quality of the shop, this is one area that you "get what you pay for".

We just bought a 1975 26ft that needs painted, I am going to paint it myself as I have done paint and body for the last 32 years. As Janet's Husband says, it seems like about 200.00 to 300.00 per ft. Just be sure they use a good self etching primer that is good for the galvanized and aluminum. I like Dupont Veriprim. Good Luck Marvin

$4000.00 is the average cost to paint an Argosy.

I would think more than $4000.00. Just to paint a panel on my car in an area that has fewer things to mask off was about $550. The place was the Rolls Royce of paint shops, so that might be a bit high, plus they did basecoat clearcoat which I would suggest be done as the clearcoat protects the paint and brings out a richness.

Legal painting now-a-days requires a three stage process to conform to EPA requirements. Primer, basecoat and clearcoat is the process. Not a cheap undertaking but $4000.00 is an average price for an Argosy trailer.

painting

llb21: I doubt the epa cares how many coats you put on your unit. Basecoat/clearcoat is how most new cars are painted but there are no laws preventing you from using Imron or laquer or any enamel you like. Tens of Thousands of hot rods, bikes and classic cars are painted every year by other than base/clear method.

Except in California unless you have a vapor recovery paint booth
