Cost for replacement passenger side windshield glass?

Ok.. So my prospective Argosy 28 (1978) will need a replacement right front windshield at some point.. Any ideas on cost? I'm not sure how big the crack is and if it's growing or not.. Thx!!

I replaced both windshields in our '75 Argosy '20 M/H for a little under $2K installed. There is a weatherstrip and a kit you need when you replace it. Check to see if you have to remove the other windshield because it may be a one piece weatherstrip. The risk may be breaking the good windshield. A local auto glass shop should be able to order the windshield and install it.

Hi Rick F. Sorry to hear that one of your panoramic windows is broken. Argosy windows are untinted and nothing exactly like that is available any more. This is a common question and I suspect that the salvage market is constantly dried up.

New pano windows are supposed to fit but they are all tinted -- and only available from a dealer. Expect something on the order of $800 without shipping. Plexiglas has been used but tends to fail after a while. Get some good advice on exactly how to remove the surrounding frames. It's not as simple as removing the likely looking rivets. I'd tend to go with the replacement glass once I went through all that.

.......sorry about my post if you were talking about an Argosy trailer. I saw your other thread about the '28 Argosy M/H you were looking at to purchase.

You're correct -- it was for a '78 Argosy 28' motorhome -- not a trailer.

I'll assume that the cost of a replacement front right window will be ~$1k give or take.. I'll be adding up the various things in order to see if I can get the seller to reduce the cost a bit -- we're currently looking at costs of $2500 to get the obvious things fixed so far.. I'm hoping I can get the price down a bit to cover some of these costs.. We'll see if there's anything else tomorrow..

I recently broke a windshield and also needed a new gasket. The gasket is one piece so both sides had to come out. The installer wouldn't even start until he had both new windshields because he said it's almost impossible to get the old glass back in without breaking it. The older glass gets brittle and you would not beleive how much he has to beat on the glass to get it installed.

Good luck, Dan

The windshields were replaced this year by a local automobile glass shop. Both of my windshields were broken.

Here is the link to my thread on my Argosy MH.

This is true, so I would price both windshields. I would talk to your local glass shop to get a price, I bet he will not replace just one because the other one may break.

windshields

Airstream and Argosy windshields cost several hundreds of dollars, plus crating and shipping.

But, the windshield gasket should also be replaced on an older coach.

The rubber hardens in time, and is well know for causing a new windshield to crack, during installation.

With the gasket, 30 feet of the gasket lock, must also be used.

Extreme caution must be used when removing the old, good windshield, so that it doesn't crack.

The best way, is to cut away as much of the gasket as possible, before any attempt is made to remove the good glass.

Everyone's prices are pretty much what it's going to cost (mine were $2200.00)
You might try "RV Glass Solutions" in Eugene, OR. Not sure if they have a webste, but their phone is 888.777.6778
