I have a 1985 270 MH w/ 65k miles, I have replaced the fan belt 4 times on the alt/smog and finally think they have it right. turns out the smog pulley was missing. Now I get whining noise when I accelerate and stops for a moment when I left off the gas. Could this noise be from the smog pump? Also I know that the alternator is from a local parts house. My information that I got shows that it came with Lestek alternator and seperate regulator.. Any thoughts?
since it stops when you let of the gas, it does sound like a loose belt. Did that noise start right after the belt replacement or after you drove some miles?
