AS motorhome concept

This Chevy concept hauler would make a way cool AS motorhome with an alum. skin, IMHO (excerpt from Motorcade, Oct. 1965).

Very Cool

What a concept. I wish the RV industry would create concept vehilces like the auto industry. Concepts like these help push the envelope in all areas of design and engineering.

What about a deisel turbine/electric RV? Maybe a double decker with huge vista windows like trains (and station wagons) in the 60's?

They'd have to put that on a MH chasis! As it looks, that's be one heck of a tow vehicle! Maybe a 53' Airstream 5'er is in the works! Maybe the 'Titan Octa-Slide' (8 slide outs), 1,000 gal. tanks, 15k gen set, a few cubic yards of solar panels, heck, you could boon-dock all summer! Pay your few bucks at Quartzite and spend the winter. Maybe they could have a garage model so you could drive the Hummer H2 into the rear garage. Oh the possibilities!

Silvertwinkie,
We got most of the old trailer docs from the PO of the AS; the rest comes from Ken's stack of old car magazines and such. Glad you're enjoying it. I'm having fun looking through all this stuff and posting bits of it. I'll post pics from time to time - just enough to support your habit I promise not to stop until I run out of material or get my third rivet, whichever comes first!

I understand that these things failed in the marketplace because the driver (engineer?) had a heart attack everytime he went under a bridge.

Don't blame 'em. A fully restored Futurliner just sold for $4,000,000.

The Futureliner tjhat sold for 4million plus at B-J auction was one that was not a motorhome. It was a portable stage for presentations and such. The side opens up to show the stage.
The white Futureliner that is privately owned and restored, has an amazing interior of woods and leather, with a full bar and lounge pit area. I am figuring that one must be worth even more.
So my 82 airstream should bring maybe 500,000 at B-J next year?
Oh yeah if I put a '69 427 fuelie Vette on as a toad!

You'd probably do slightly better with the Delorean designed '64 Pontiac Banshee XP-833 Coupe Prototype instead of the 'Vette... only two were made!

There is a website that I visited some time ago that documented the restoration of a Futureliner. It was the one used for presentations. The whole side opened up and I remember there were interior steps to the driving area.
