Airstream is going to offer a new motorhome

Just watched a video interview of Airstream President, Bob Wheeler, at the Airstream Dealer meeting in Ohio. He says they will be introducing a new motorhome shortly. Based on his comments it sounds like it will be a Class C. I'm betting it will be on the new Ford Transit Cab Chassis. You can check out video at this web page.

...and for any dealers who don't make the cut...

will they get a "popped rivet" rating?

I'm not sure why I'm curious about either a new MH or a Nest since we aren't going to sell our trailer until we can't use it anymore and have no interest in buying a new one, but all things Airstream seem to captivate us, even if I have to monitor parallel threads.

They've expanded the factory by 50%, so something has to go in the space. But will a MH be built somewhere else at Thor since they have assembly lines for MH's? Will it simply be a Thor MH (maybe a Ford Class C?) rebadged with some aluminum? They've been there before and the market wasn't there. There are a lot of Ford Class C MH's and they come pretty cheap compared to Airstreams, but they would quite possibly hike up the price for a Keystone or other Thor brand MH by $20-30K for the privilege of having an Airstream marque. Buy the Airstream chrome marque and replace the Keystone one and, presto, an Airstream!

I could never figure out why AS would not simply badge one of Thor's MHs to meet the need for an AS MH by literally hundreds of airstreamers who are active in WBCCI and want the motor-home type vehicle. Adding a few AS touches would not cost much and that would fit the Definition of a MH manufactured by AS for the WBCCI membership

I think you are correct and Airstream has finally realized they were missing a large chuck of the market. The Class C RVs built on a cab chassis are the largest segment of the motorhome market.

The "cab chassis" is, I assume, the MH with a pickup cab and frame attached to a long box. Sometimes there is a cab-over bed or storage, and sometimes the cab is obviously attached to the MH in a rather ugly way. Either way, it is hard for me to imagine how it will look like an Airstream.

Isn't that what they did with their last try at marketing an Airstream MOHO?

A rebadged MOHO would not meet the WBCCI's definition of what is an Airstream.

Why not? Isn't a Mercedes Sprinter an Airstream Interstate? They're welcome in the WBCCI.

Crazy, it should be by brand name- period.

hmm. I still think AS needs to think about looking at other materials for construction. We all like the Aluminum but there are also concerns- corrosion, wood floor, etc that certainly some modernized techniques might solve. I just slammed another $5K into my baby so I am/have really crossed the line on buying another one without significant loss but there are many interesting RVs out there with enduring features though Airstream does, IMO still hold the style award.

Since we're all just speculating.....

A classic Moho (like the 345) on an F350 chassis (or Ram 3500, GMC 3500) would be cool. Just have Ford/Ram/GMC deliver the chassis to Jackson Center and build the Classic look around it. I suspect any of those foundations could easily be used to reproduce the Classic look of the older Moho's.

But then, I would LOVE to own a 345. They're just dern cool.

Ha! And with enough horsepower that thing could also double as an F-22 Stealth fighter....or the Starship Enterprise.

Good question. I couldn't find anything in a 5 minute search. It may have been someone's wishful thinking that matured into a rumor.

The GM 4104 and 4103 busses were Raymond Loewy designs that characterized an era of designs signifying speed and sleekness—the bus would be a good match with Airstream.
