Oh of course paint something silver and add blacked out windows and that makes it an Airstream.....

If that is anything like the finished product that will be an unfortunate misstep by AS.

Totally unappealing from the outside. I'm sure the inside will be great... but exterior is 'fugly'

Interesting comments from all above but since I was at the Airstream Rally last month for their presentation and spoke with factory reps in January, I do not think we should expect anything new and exciting for this "new" motorhome.

Keep in mind that Airstream is owned by Thor Industries who makes many different model RV's just like General Motors was notorious for doing in the past. Anyone remember the Chevy Cavalier and Cadillac Cimmeron?? Or maybe the Buick Park Avenue Ultra and Cadillac Deville?? Same frame, engine, just dressed up differently with a huge price difference.

In January Airstream Reps at the Tampa RV show said they would be offering a new Interstate with slide outs. Last month they provided a video clip of various new products which included a photo from the rear of a new Interstate with the pig belly sides hanging out over the rear wheels. This model RV is currently made by Thor and marketed as the Siesta or Synergy or Citation models built on the Mercedes frame. The interiors are nice and can be easily changed; with slideouts extra space added is a nice feature too. But...is it sleak with aero shaped features, and screams "Airstream" to all who see it....nope!! Looks like a short squatty oversized body on a small Mercedes frame. I might add it also has the same look as the Swift RV's currently sold in Europe. Its not a new design.

One last reminder about Thor. The last Class A motor home designed by Airstream was the 1994-2005 fiberglass Landyacht with the rounded nose which was actually a registered pattern trademark. It came in diesel version up till 1999 then only gas till it ended. In 2000 Thor changed the diesels to the flat front versions thru 2006. Those were existing Thor motorhome shells with Airstream interiors and name badging added....and a huge price tag to match!!

Those existing Thor models have one other thing in common, sweeping graphics on the sides to break up the visual oppressiveness of the slab sides. Stylistically, a monolithic solid-color body simply doesn't work with an RV whose sides are flat as a billboard.

At the very least, an Airstream Class C or C-minus would need some horizontal stripes at the beltline (in classic Airstream blue?), preferably with some actual texture added by including some sort of body side molding.

If it doesn't say AIRSTREAM across the grille at the front; then it's not an Airstream.[emoji12]

Then existing Interstates aren't Airstreams, either. They don't come with an Airstream logo on the front. Trust me, that's one argument you don't want to start…

Hi

Do the dealers sell the Interstates? ... hmmm... seems like they do. If so the cross branding / rebadging is working. In a lot of cases it just plain falls flat. That would be my guess for "slab sides" but what do I know ....

This is the general direction that I think they should be pursuing.

Class C Mercedes chassis @ Airstream factory

Anyone else note a line of a half dozen or more Mercedes chassis units parked at the factory recently? In October of last year we visited the Mothership and after the factory tour noted a lineup of Mercedes outside where we exited the tour. They consisted of cabs with a bare frame dual axel setup behind. I'm sorry that no "spy photos" accompany my post.
Anyway, it was fairly easy to imagine a 16-18' Airstream trailer sans front cap dropped onto said chassis.

The link dates back to 2005. If it was going to happen, they wouldn't have waited 12 years to do it.

No it's not an Airstream; it's an Argosy; and Interstates are Interstates, IMHO.

I'm not insinuating these models are difficent in anyway, but you both have your sections of the forums, as do I.

Cheers
Tony

As for if Airstream should have built either of the two Aero concept motorhomes in aluminum as depicted in the past couple of posts;...... you could plaster Argosy and Interstate nameplates all over them.....and people would still think it was an Airstream.😜
Cheers

Our 2015 23D International Serenity must not be an Airstream since they left the word "AIRSTREAM" off the back of the aluminum shell above the window. No one at the factory or the selling dealership, Colonial, noticed that omission or even ever asked if they could correct it.

Betty Furness on the Westinghouse Playhouse of Stars in the 60s had this cute add phrase, "The quality goes in before the name goes on". That is probably why we had so many quality control issues.

...and I guess that is why the OP posted to the general motorhome forum so everyone is included.

It would be nice to see Airstream resurrect the old Argosy brand to launch a novel product in the same way that they used to test the water before risking the the Airstream brand, but then as this doesn't look to be a novel product rather one of Thor's other models rebranded then bringing back the Argosy brand probably isn't appropriate.
