Air Conditioner Stops Blowing Hard

Replaced our Dometic A/C unit a year ago for our 2005 International. We have noticed that sometimes, after it runs a while, it stops blowing forcefully from the vents. Could it be freezing up? If so, what could we do to prevent this?

My wife loves it cold enough to hang meat (LOL). So we generally keep it going constantly when we are at a site with electric hookup - especially when we're vacationing in South Texas like we are now.

Thanks

Chris

Are you saying the fan slows down or it goes off. Is the thermostat set on Auto? Auto will run at high speed then kick down to low fan and when at temperature the compressor kicks off. I usually leave my 13.5K Dometic on Low Fan and it cycles the compress on an off but keeps the fan on 100%. I can't hear much difference between high fan and low fan on my unit so I leave it on low.

It's most likely freezing up.

Set the temp a bit higher so the compressor will cycle and allow the evaporator coils to defrost.

BTW a 28' would benefit by having 2 a/c units and using a auto switching unit to only run 1 at a time alternately.

If it is humid set the fan to high to lessen the chance of icing.

I have 2 A/C units. Where can I get an auto switching unit?

Thanks,
Bruce

I don't think you need one. The thermostat will work just fine.

The auto switch is used on rigs that are only 30amp so the 2 a/c's don't overload the main breaker.

If you have a 50amp rig you don't need it as long as the park has 50 amp service.

I suppose one could install one on a 50amp rig but it would require some rewiring of some circuits . So when the park has only 30amp service you could still run both a/c's alternately.

A competent RV shop could supply and install a unit.

I tried what the owner's manual recommends and it worked for us during one miserable trip in the Deep South; kept the fan on HIGH.
