Phase One of '63 Bambi
Today, pretty much gutted the interior of my Bambi, I have some pictures that I will upload later tonight/tomorrow morning. Getting out the black water tank was really a pain! For those who didn't read my other post in the Bambi forum room, I'm a college student, and this Bambi has been sitting in my backyard for years, and I really, really don't know what I'm doing. My next step, I think, is to do some floor replacement, based off of this ( 1956 Flying Cloud - Floor) person's replacement & pics. I think I'll begin tearing the floor up tomorrow.

Roadtrip,
Glad to hear about your project. I'm just finishing up on our 63 Bambi, after a year of restoration. If you take the shell off to replace the floor it would be the perfect time to change the axle, while the frame is exposed. It will be easier than crawling around under the trailer after its finished ( like I did). I repalced the axle with a Dexter, it included bearings, brakes and shock mounts for around $525. No shipping if you pick it up at the dealer. The axle and the fridge were the two biggest single expenses. Take your time and do the best job you can. Best of luck on your project!

thanks for the responses guys. inside i've encountered two types of rivets. one kind has indentations in the middle and have been easy to remove with a drill, but the other ones are much harder. whats up with that? here's what they look like:

i can't tell if that picture worked or not. the more difficult rivets to get out have no indentation in the middle and are just have larger round heads.

Do you attend PA College of Technology in Williamsport? I saw a forlorn Bambi sitting in the backyard of an old apartment house outside the college and left a note of interest, but never heard one word. Also left a note on a 1960's single axle Avion a few blocks away. There are some great silver gems in Williamsport, PA!

Nope, I go to Temple, in Philly, but I'm from right outside DC, in MD (which is where the Bambi is).

Roadtrip,
Drill the ones with the indentations with a 1/8 drill (pop rivets) the others with the solid tops , drill with a 5/32 drill. I flattened the tops with a small grinder (Dremmel) to keep the bit centered. Buy a zillion of each size.
Pictures are not coming in.
