New here with new to me 62 Bambi

Just picked up my first A.S. -80 miles from home. I'm the 3rd owner and the first two were related. I had to beat out 12 other offers on C.L. It's in great mostly original shape. There's alot more to the story and more pictures to come. I'll be having some questions for sure as well. The sub floor looks solid. The trailer has been mostly parked for 20 years under a tarp and on the jack stands. It towed like a dream!

Like what you've done with yours! I'll be doing alot of the same. Trying to keep it as original as possible with some modernizing and added style.

Welcome to the forums. We hope you enjoy your project. It can become a little addictive, we've now restored two Airstreams and enjoyed both projects.

The folks here have been extremely helpful and there's a high probability that whatever you run into, it has been solved by someone in this community.

Good luck,

Roy and Marie

Welcome. If you want to join the Wally Byam Caravan Club, you might be able to keep those red numbers if they haven't been assigned to anyone else. Might be worth a call to the mother ship to find out if they're available.

Hello from Colorado. Those early 60s Bambis are sure popular. I'm sure you had a lot of competition in the buying process. Your Bambi will draw a crowd anyplace you decide to park it. They're so cute! We have the exact opposite of your trailer. A 34' Classic Limited. BIG. Not so cute.

Your trailer was much traveled. Each of the stars above the number stands for 5 years in the WBCCI caravan club. Skin is pretty straight too. Interior photos? The hot water heater was changed. The battery is interesting.

Looks like you got a Reese Twin cam and a newer air conditioner in the bargain. It will be a great caravaning/traveling machine. If you do not mind the continuing upkeep, it will shine up nicely. You will be a star of the show at Vintage Events.

Congrats on your purchase. You will love the attention she gets!

Should you be interested, the following things were changed over a long period of time; battery location changed to front box, water heater replaced, door knob changed, pathfinder front and rear lights added at the higher elevation point, along with a few modern convinces. How would i know? We use to have one too.

You will find, everywhere you go with her, you will a number of people asking about her, giving you a thumbs up, and want to have their picture taken by her. Get use to making new friends and people wanting to see inside her! She is perfect for a weekend getaway. We sold Ours to a great couple out in California a couple of years ago, kind of miss her at times, but we had to have a little bigger trailer for longer camping excursions. Enjoy, welcome to the Airstream Owners' experience!
Regards,
StevieB

Thanks for the informational replies! I am considering reinstating the Wally numbers if possible. The trailer spent most of it's life in the Nevada desert. Yee haw! It's wet up here so that's great news. It really has been well cared for in my opinion. Even though I had to beat out the other offers, I still think I got a decent price. I've had 5 (non a.s.) vintage trailers in the past and while I'm not a vet I'm not totally green either! Here's some more pics, thanks again for any info. I'll be redoing the floor to hardwood and the counter, curtains, cushions, checking all plumbing, electrical, etc.

Also my numbers are 16TSS1838. I assume this is the 238th trailer made in California? It's a 1962 on title but I think was made in 1961 for 1962 ?

Congrats! Lots of fun ahead. We just had our 1959 Flying Cloud 22' restored and did some upgrades to it as well. It looks as original as possible and all the original appliances work which was a huge plus. We are down a bit from you near Stanford and we used V and V bros Trailers in Redwood City to help us with many things if you need the name of someone who does this kind of thing. They have done many other vintage Airstreams for folks around the Bay as well as Francis Ford Coppola's several personal Airstreams.
Have fun!!

Congrats on your bambi. I love the early 60's trailers, having had a 63 globetrotter, and a 64 overlander( my favorite). Now working on a 80 caravelle.
