Hello everyone. I have installed the new floor, purchased a new 20 gal. water tank and demand pump. I also wired in a fuse panel, eliminateing the gob of soldered wires.
I begun the prep to repaint the inside. If anyone is interested, the end caps on my '61 are fiberglass, not sure if they are all that way or not.
I am installing LED marker lights on the rear and LED pancake tail lights. Once the painting is comlete, I will begin instlation of the new flooring.

Will post in classifieds later, a lady in Missouri has an Ohio made 1961 Bambi with the last 3 numbers of 162. She does want to sell it.

Cool 1961 Bambi with Serial# 1611

1961 Classic Airstream Bambi 16 Foot Travel Trailer | Thousand Oaks | eBay Classifieds (Kijiji) | 11936656

There is a '61 Bambi on ebay in California. There are 4 days left. I appreciate him telling me what the serial number is for this thread.

It is a "movie star". Good pictures.

My 61 Bambi has 1738 as the last 4 digits and is a California made trailer. I guess that means she was 138th trailer built.

Ok I have a chance to buy a 1963 Bambi, The asking price seams to be a little high but it does appear in restorable shape, and its been sitting for for around 2 decades!. The #'s on the side by the front door are 193D236 and also T0024670. I cant find these #'s to match anything on the web sites... Could someone tell me if this is a 63? And the value of it? Thanks alot! I hope to be on the road next summer!

Bambi numbers

I just bought a Cal. Bambi with Number 16TDSS1602 , from what I can tell reading forums it would be the Third made , this got me to wondering if the 1&2
Were still accounted for? Or could I have the earliest to still exist?

I would love some input?

Don't know where the 1600 is but Boeingboy has 1601 (the second made) so that means that you have the third made in CA.

Wonderful!

first Bambi

I do not know why people think first serial number of a model starts with 0. Does anyone own an Airstream where the serial number is 0000? I learned to count starting with 1. Every military collectible firearm I have owned, every limited edition painting I have owned or vintage Jaguar car I have owned has started with the number 1. I own the Bambi that ends with serial number 1601 which I believe means it is the first one made. I would like to see any evidence to the contrary, i.e that Airstream started counting with zero. That would make them unique from any other manufacturer that I am aware of. Starting with one means number 1650 is the 50th made-simple math.

Just waiting for Andy D to acknowledge that the first was 1601 or then correct his post to show that 1728 would be the 129th built Bambi if they started with 1600. Does anyone have any airstream that has a serial number ending with 00?

bambi serial numbers

I wish Andy would acknowledge and correct his initial post here. The first Cal built Bambi was serial number 1601. No one starts with the number 0 when building anything. If 1600 was the first then 1610 would be the 11th. See his comment on the Ohio Bambi's. Number 125 would be the 126th with his counting formula.

New User here not the Bambi has been in the family since '78. Our Bambi's S/N is 162T488 so at least 488 by your estimate. It is "as found - complete" but needs updating and new subfloor. Thinking of PolyTec but worried about expansion in 120 degree heat here in Az. Thoughts?

Hi Busbuoy,

I just joined the forum today and came across you older post. The 1961 Bambi I bought last summer has the VIN number 16TS S1600. I don't know if that means it's the first one, but it does answer your 1600 question.

Cheers,
Aaron

Ok folks, been reading this thread... we have a 1963 Bambi, made in California. Trying to figure out where it might have been in the "line up" for California that year... all ideas welcome. Here is the info on our plaque:

16TS S1938
6301

Thanks in advance for any help!

1963 California Bambi production was for the Serial Numbers 16TSS1881 thru 16TSS1975, with most, but not all, of these built between December 1962 and February 1963. You thus have the 57th of 94 California built 1963 Bambis. The "6301" on the serial number tag indicates it was produced in January 1963. But more specifically, I can tell you it was ordered for a dealer named "Intermountain" on 1/22/63 with a target completion date of 2/8/63.

1961 California Bambi serial number 16TSS1600 was the first California Bambi ever built.

The California Bambi serial number ranges are as follows:
  • 1961: 16TSS1600 thru 16TSS1794 (195 units built)
  • 1962: 16TSS1795 thru 16TSS1880 (86 units built)
  • 1963: 16TSS1881 thru 16TSS1975 (95 units built)
  • Total: 376 units built
The Ohio Bambi serial number ranges are as follows:
  • 1961: 161T101 thru 161T350 (250 units)
  • 1962: 162T401 thru 162T502 (102 units)
  • 1963: 163T101 thru 163T256 (156 units)
  • Total: 508 units built
These are confirmed numbers that may disagree with previous posts in this thread.

I have discovered an error in my previous post as there was a batch of 1961 Bambi serial numbers skipped in Ohio which split it's 1961 production into two batch runs. Here is the revised info:

The California Bambi serial number ranges are as follows:
  • 1961: 16TSS1600 thru 16TSS1794 (195 units built)
  • 1962: 16TSS1795 thru 16TSS1880 (86 units built)
  • 1963: 16TSS1881 thru 16TSS1975 (95 units built)
  • Total: 376 units built
The Ohio Bambi serial number ranges are as follows:
  • 1961 1st Run: 161T101 thru 161T254 (154 units)
  • 1961 2nd Run: 161T301 thru 161T350 (50 units)
  • 1962: 162T401 thru 162T502 (102 units)
  • 1963: 163T101 thru 163T256 (156 units)
  • Total: 462 units built
This is the latest and best information I have about 1961-63 Bambi production.

Please, to be exact, everyone needs to add one more number to their serial number to come up with the correct place n manufacturing. They started with the "number" 000 so the number 001 (MINE) would mean that it is the 2nd one made. Everyone needs to add one number to their serial number. Why they start with 000 is a mystery to me.

A gentleman from England claimed to have 000 and Airstream factory museum lady confirms that 000 is the first one made.
