1961-1963 Airstream Bambi owners registry

I started a 1961-1963 Airstream Bambi owners registry on Facebook today! If you know someone with a Bambi let them know to register! I will put a link to the forums so they can find it!

Actually, lets start a registry here! It is for Bambi's produced from 61 - 63 only so if you have one list its VIN # and Picture and location so we can see how many there are left!

That VIN matches up with a 61 Ohio Bambi, not a 63.

Here's Our '61!

We believe our 1961 Bambi, Sweetpea II, was the 147th trailer manufactured in California (16TDL1747). We love her!

Howdy....We purchased a 62 a few months ago (162T449).....It's a little cutie. I searched for months all over the U.S., and finally found one about 2 hours away. It was in the same family for 35 years. I'm sure we will give it a great home.

Bambi

We have owned our 1961 Bambi (161T251) 5 years and have traveled about 8000 miles with it.

It should be on your title, registration and on a plate next to the door. It should begin with the numbers 16 and be seven or nine digits long.

The model # (16TDSS1659) is on the plate by the door, but we are looking for a VIN which should be on the frame. We can see a # has been stamped on the door side of the tongue up close to the body, but they are large #'s and I don't think there is room for all 9 of the #'s we read on the title.

My '62 is an Ohio model numbered 162T446.

Since I'm moving to Oregon at the end of June, I'll be selling 2 of the 3 trailers I have here (the 4th is already in Oregon) rather than tow more than one. Sure hope Bambi is the last one standing in the driveway.

I'd always heard the number of 200 left on the road; hope that's holding steady.

16TDSS1659 is your VIN. It is a California 61 Bambi with the double bed layout. It was the 59th of 60th (did they atart with #600 or #601?) made at that plant.

I think that your number is very low. There were over a thousand Bambi's made in the 3 years of production. 200 is less then 20% which would be unlikely for a trailer as popular as the Bambi.

In almost 50 years of towing, falling trees, fires & hail storms? I'm a '62 too and am surprised to have lasted this long.

Someone please check my math, but I believe that an attrition rate of 16-17 trailers a year isn't out of the question.

That number is indeed your VIN. The stamped number can sometimes be so long that the last part of it ends up under the propane tank base. It fit when it was stamped there.

Great idea to register these....I did about a month ago.....I read some time ago that there were a total of 866 Bambi Airstreams made from 61 through 63, does anyone know if that is correct? Also, the 200 left on the road (mentioned above) seems low, does anyone know anything about that number?
